Hi! My name is Sue, and I am from Massachusetts. I will be celebrating my 25th annual 29th birthday in a couple of weeks! I am happily married to my other half for 22 years. We have two fur-children, our cats Keyara and Bebe. Echinacea is my name in several MMOs, so I am almost more used to being called Echi than Sue!

I am just starting to get my feet wet in mermaiding (or should that be 'tail wet', though I don't have one yet...?). I had seen an article about Eric Ducharme while browsing the internet, and started thinking about mermaids and mermen and getting more interested in what it is to be mermaid. I am looking into getting a monofin, and starting to learn to swim like a fish, rather than a person.

I look forward to getting to know more merfolks! :)

Welcome to the forum :) Don't feel odd about not having a tail, several Mers myself included don't have a tail yet. My dream would be to have a tail made by MerBella Studios Inc. but it'll be a year or 2 before I can afford one.

Are there any good 'how-to' videos out there for learning the dolphin kick? I have been looking at possibly the Finis Foil as being good to start with and not likely to break the bank. I like the colors and shape of the Oceanika Merfin and the recycled rubber part, but my shoe size is 9 wide US and 41 Euro, and it looks like they don't go any larger than a woman's 8/37-39. Any other suggestions?

I have a finis tempo monofin. I don't know if they make that one anymore but the finis foil, wave, and rapid are all good choices and if you get it on Amazon.com or Swimoutlet.com you can get some pretty good prices :) There are some decent videos on youtube.

I think their tails are the best out there. I have spent many hours looking at pictures and videos of the tails that Raven makes. She's such an artist and it blows my mind what that woman can do with silicone lol

Welcome Echinacea! Don't feel bad about not having a tail yet. I didn't have one nor a monofin when I first joined either. And I agree, it is amazing what some of those mers out there can do!

Don't worry about the difficulty of learning how to swim in a monofin. I find it's easier to learn than the doggy paddle. It took me and my friend about 10 seconds after putting one on and jumping in the pool to master it.
