Phone number on Business card?

So, I have a question about business cards.

I have made some before for my crocheting and included my cell phone number (at the time, best way to contact me), along with e-mail address. This seems to have turned into a free pass to text me and bother me constantly. I don't mind meeting new people and exchanging numbers, but if you seem interested in my business and want a card... Well, actually contact me about my business, not bugging me to hang out.

So, because of this issue, I have been debating if I should put my number on it. I have a smartphone, so I can reply to e-mails right away, but... I dunno. Is it too personal?

See, I don't think I have this problem... I have my phone # on my cards for my dreadlocking business, and I never get random calls/texts... just business :P But mostly people will go check my facebook out and contact me there.

If people randomly call/text from your business cards, maybe either use only your website info (have your phone # on your website, or just have your email on there), or another option (maybe for someone without a smartphone) is have one phone for business, one for personal - pre-paid phones are super cheap and (mostly) hassle-free, and it works well even if one of your phones is on a "plan" and the other's prepaid - some prepaids even have smartphones, but most have at least email/some web accessible.

An option for this is give your business cards to people who are serious about your services, and a calling card for people who want to hang out... maybe your mermaid card has just your mermaid name and all your business info and a splashier design, and your calling card says something like " 'Mermaid Kailani', insert realname, insert info" and a simple little graphic, more streamlined than the business card?

No problem! I love calling cards, they're so Victorian in my mind heehee :) And I know quite a few pro bloggers that use that method because they meet people they want to hang out with as well as business contacts all the time... and there's a lot of cute double-sided business card holders so both are easily accessible and organized.

For the record, I have yet to actually buy some, but Moo Cards are my favorite - they have mini cards and also I believe they let you have several different designs per order? I think Voltaire got his cards through them because he does so many things he needs 4 different business cards. A lot of the bloggers I follow have gotten them, they're high quality and just look awesome, plus that whole split-your-order thing really just seals the deal for me. Not trying to advertise, but from what I've seen these are my personal favorite.

I got some free (+ shipping) cards from somewhere else, and now I just have business cards out the wazoo. Worst part? It says "Denver" on it; I moved to OR almost 6 months ago, so I'm kind of worried about giving them out and people just throwing them away...

Ah, yeah. I haven't had anything that bad, but the "Here's my business card"="Hey, we're instant friends!" happens a lot. I get the guys harassing me to "go hang out" all the time. Dude, I met you once. Go away.

I'll check out Moo Cards. I already have a business card design in mind. It's all custom done. ^_^ My friend drew my logo. I just need to colour it and get it into a digital format. It'll be so pretty. :D

Ooh, that's so cool! I can't wait to see it! I love custom-made logos, my dad drew the logo on my dreadlocks facebook page, but I got my cards before that :P

I'm forum creepin' and late to the party, but thought I'd throw in my two cents!
I agree with Miyu and Anahita. I've dealt with some suuuper creeps in the past via private message (especially on deviantArt- nevermind my young age to boot, ick), so I wouldn't dream of handing out my personal number willy-nilly. It's already been said, but a lot of guys assume they can convince you to date them or some equivalent, especially over text. If you simply MUST give out a number, yeah, go for a prepaid phone that's a separate number from your personal one. That way, if someone must call you, and things go sour with them, they don't have your personal number. Worst comes to worse, you get rid of the prepaid phone and get a new one with a new number. It's a pain in the butt if you have to do this, especially multiple times, with your personal number. It's also a pain for your friends/family who have to jumble to figure out which number is currently yours if you're switching it up every so often.

Another option might be a texting app that gives you a different number, or allows the people to text you without seeing your number (think Kik). A google number would also be helpful, and might eliminate the added hassle of getting a prepaid phone. I don't know how easy it would be to discard and claim other google numbers, however, as I've never personally dealt with them.

I even have a "public" email that forwards to my personal one. People (namely guys) don't realize that being given (or happening upon) a business number/email is NOT a green light for "come chat me up".
