Hey guys, I've never posted on here but I'm pretty sure I've been lurking for a while! I took a design class last college semester and showed my teacher (several hah) videos of silicone tails in action. So he said I could take design 2 (which deals in 3D design) and build a silicone tail as my whole class project! Best teacher ever. So while I'm anxiously awaiting the start of the semester I've been trying to get my ideas together.

I want to make a neoprene based tail and use the paintable silicone caulking over it. (Gotta figure out how I want to mold the scales) I'm a seamstress so I feel more comfortable sewing the base instead of straight molding it. (I also want to avoid that butt gap I see sometimes when people are swimming) I'll add a zipper in the back and probably hide it with a fin and I'm still trying to decide if I should make it low rise on my hips or high waisted. I'm sort of leaning towards high waisted because I get cold easily.

For my monofin I plan on making my own out of lexan. My fluke I want to be quite large. Gah, just writing this I want to get started now! Still trying to decide on the overall paint. I'd like to use a maroon/gold combo but want to make it have a river mermaid feel.

I'm so excited, if it weren't for my teacher I wouldn't be able to start creating my tail. Just wanted to share with everyone. Classes start in a few weeks! :)

That's awesome! I was wishing myself that I was taking a fiber class, but my first semester is a clay class. You're lucky! Have fun and post pictures!!!

Thanks! Oh I don't think we have a specific clay class. The school cut way back on arts and only offers two certificate programs now :/

This is the college :( I was tempted to go to vcu but it's so expensive! This will be my second year of community college.

OH! Well I know a few people who transferred into Art Foundation after community! I think it will take them an extra semester or two but they think it's worth it.

Haha.. Yeah isn't that crazy! I think I've settled on just getting a fine arts certificate for now and getting an associates degree in horticulture. :)
