Soon I will do my first public "mermaiding" experience at some springs in Ocala. I think we're trying Salt Springs and Silver Glen. Has anyone been there who can tell me what they thought of the area?

Hi Matanzas...I haven't been to Salt or Silver Glen, but I have heard from at least one other mer that Silver Glen is very nice. I do most of my mermaiding at Alexander Springs, which is in the same general area, so that's the only one I can vouch for. Personally, I love it...there's LOTS of swimming space, both sandy shallows and a nice deep boil for free-diving...as well as some shallow areas by the grass or dive steps as locations to put on a tail.

Hope someone else who's been to the other ones responds...if not, you'll have to tell us what you think when you go to either or both of them!

I used to go to Silver Glen when I was younger. I LOVED IT. The springs themselves are very pretty- plenty of room to swim and the well of the spring is usually filled with Stripped Bass.

Only problem i can think of is how you are going to get in with your tail. The beach part isn't exactly tail-friendly. And the other half of the springs is used to dock boats coming in to visit.

You should have a great time there.

Thank you! This helped. I will be posting pictures in the next few days in my homemade tail there.

Silver Glenn is much nicer than Salt Springs, and is more natural looking.

The main spring is 20 to 30 ft down.

We were not able to dive in Silver Glen today. A free diver went missing last night and was discovered this morning. The spring was closed for further investigation. :(
