It might be quite a while before I am ready to be a professional mermaid, but lately I've been thinking of my backstory. I want to have it down very well, so I don't have to stammer and adlib when kids ask me questions. I think I'll say I was originally a mermaid, and needed to be a human so I could marry my true love. I think I'll say that I made a deal with a sea witch (a nice one, mind you! Not an evil one like Ursula) so I can peel my tail off like a second skin and have legs. Which would make it easier to get my tail on and off without breaking any little kid's heart, lol. The one bit I can't figure out is what do I tell them I gave the sea witch in exchange? Obviously not my voice, as I'm talking. My gills perhaps, to explain why I need to breath the air? I dunno, feedback would be appreciated.
