Hello to all of you!
I've just joined the MerNetwork and I'm very excited to be going to Merpalooza this weekend in Tampa, Florida. I live south of Tampa, so I am beyond happy that the convention will be so close to home. My background is similar to most of you - from a very young age I had a deep admiration for all things related to the sea, mermaids, water, etc. I grew up in Indiana and was an odd duck because I ALWAYS wanted to be in the water... learning new swimming techniques, etc etc. My family wanted to move to Florida and convinced me that I could be more like a mermaid and learn how to scuba dive in Florida. Fast forward, I'm 30 years old now, and I've been wanting a tail for so long that it hurts! I had some very serious health concerns not long ago and once I began to recover, I resolved to not wait any longer to enjoy the mermaid fantasy... why not? So, here I am, "diving" in and eager to make some new like-minded friends and hopefully learn as much as possible about mermaiding, tail purchases, mer-meet-ups, etc.

As for tails - I've never had one. I was very excited to order a basic fabric tail and monofin - it was set to arrive today so that I could bring it to Merpalooza... but I was crushed to find out that the business only sent me the fabric tail and not the monofin. They insisted that I didn't order the monofin too.... sigh. I wish I had taken a screen capture of my online order form so that I could provide proof :( So, here I am without a monofin and wondering if I can find one quickly in a store (Sports Authority? Scuba supplies?) on my way to Merpalooza Friday. I'm looking forward to returning to Weeki Wachee Springs again as well.

I have not decided on an official mermaid name, like most of you have.... so I'll go by SirenaBridge for now. I've joined the Pod of the South and I'm looking forward to this weekend's events! By the way, I've worked all over and lived in Alaska for a while - are there any members from Alaska? :)

Aww :( maybe someone who's going to merpalooza would be able to sell you a monofin or let you borrow theirs.

Welcome to the forum!

Hi, and welcome to MerNetwork! One possibility might be to check at Merpalooza - my impression was that there is a vendor area, with people selling stuff, so you may be able to get a monofin there! Also, maybe check what the company charged you - if they just charged you for a tail, then maybe there was a hiccup in the order, but if they charged you for a tail and a monofin, and you only got the tail, I would ask them to refund the price of the monofin. Have fun at Merpalooza, I'm hoping to get there some year! :)
