I believe a few of us are here and are being relocated in the next few weeks.
I just wanted to make a thread to talk about worries or struggles or excitement or just college in general :)
I'm going to VCUArts in Richmond, VA. Freshman, not nervous about leaving but worried of my class load. The first year required program for any art student, AFO, has an infamous saying of "sleep when you're dead".
I was hoping to get a lot out of first year. Going from small town to big city, i'll have so many more opportunities. I plan to eat more organic, vegan, gluten free, and overall healthy, not everyday but often. I'm starting yoga and kickboxing at their famous cary street gym. Also will be hitting the weight room and (both) Olympic size pools with my monofin.
With all of this going on, I will be collecting supplies for my full silicone tail, scheduled to be put together early December when I start my month long break. I plan to sculpt fluke and scales during thanksgiving break as much as possible.
Ill also be working in my free time at school if I can find a job (very limited for non work study students ><) and back home during breaks.
So yes, Im terrified of maintaining a stable and organized life haha.

I think I saw you wanting to major in marine science right? What kind of job do you want?
I used to want to be a marine biologist when I was a kid but I soon found out in middle and high school that math and science were not my strong suits at all.. It sucks but oh well

I'm in college now. I'm about to start my sophomore year. I live at home currently but I'm planning on transferring in the spring and getting my own place then. I'm excited to be on my own finally, but with being an adult, you just get more and more responsibilities. I most likely will have to rent a house or an apartment that allows dogs. My parents work too much to watch our dog at home. So I most likely will have to take my dog with me to school. It's not a major problem. But I'm glad I'll be able to give him the attention he needs.
The major problem is paying for rent. I don't think my parents will help me at all with it. I'm hoping that when I tell them I'll offer to take the dog, they'll chip in some money. Or even if we could pay every other month. I have a job now but even if I worked completely full time, I would NEVER be able to afford the smallest of a home. Le sigh. Money is unfortunately everything

Blondie, that sounds so stressful! I can deal with small expenses for now but I could never totally move out. Our school does the lottery for dorms after first year and I most likely won't get it, so ill be on the house/ apt search too. Hopefully my parents will pitch in some too haha. They understand how hard it is to find me a job at all.

I'll be going to college next fall. So right now, I'm just worried about filling out the applications and going for any scholarships I can find. I am worried about where I'll get spending money of my own since at te school I want to go to (NAU) freshmen aren't alowed to have a job so that you are focusing on your classes.

What's NAU? And yea I only ended up applying to 2 schools. I got into my second choice early admission, which was way before the deadlines for my 3rd, 4th, and 5th backup schools. I was lucky since applications are anywhere $40-$70

Yeah I think it would be nice for your parents to help you at least until you got your first job out of college. I mean, I would LOVE to stay in a dorm, but the school doesn't have any dorms... Thankfully the area is not expensive to live in. I couldn't imagine doing this if I went to school in LA, New York City, or Miami. It would not even be possible.

Our dorms are about 8/9k average per year. But I've heard that getting an apartment for the same amount of time with a roomie or two is the same amount. It's just the added safety of the 24/7 police and door guards and all the tech stuff that I like. I would love an apartment though!

i'm going into my third year at VT in blacksburg, va. i definitely love my apartment over having to live in the dorms. spent my first year in the dorms and they were nice and were a great way to make some friends but at the same time they were stressful in my opinion where as in my apartment i get my own space. also to prepare you freshmen, you will find out that there is a lot of work you will have to do outside of class that is up to you to get done. that said, collage is an awesome experience

NAU is northern Arizona University. :) I'll be staying in the dorms there since its very far away and there aren't any apartments around ; besides the ones owned by the school.(the school is up in the mountains, that's mainly the reason why I chose to go there because I love nature and actual season changing which doesn't happen any where else in AZ haha)

The transition from a small town to a big city opens up loads of opportunities. Your plan to focus on a healthier lifestyle with yoga, kickboxing, and a special diet is commendable. Just remember, balance is key. And hey, the silicone tail project sounds fascinating!
