Thinking of taking out a loan for a silicone tail. It the investment worth it? Those of you with silicone tails, do they last? This will be a big financial commitment for me.

how do you plan to pay it off? I work constantly and my money just gets sunk right back into my business. It could take you a year to pay it down.

I work full time and make about 1200$/month. No rent responsibilities. So I could pay it down. Payments don't bother me. Just curious if a silicone tail really makes the difference

I'm already thinking of selling my neoprene tail for a silicone one. Mostly though, I want a silicone tail because it is actually possible to put a silicone tail on by myself. The zipper on my current tail won't budge without another pair of hands.

I have a neoprene tail by mermaid Shelly. I love it, but I have a few gigs coming up where kids will be touching my tail. I need something that feels real as well as look real. Neoprene just doesn't cut it anymore.

A silicone tail is roughly $1-3k, if you're making $1200/month, why do you need a loan? it seems you could easily save up some money very quickly. I'd avoid a loan nonetheless. Banks can be very tricky about that sort of thing.

Because I have other life expenses and kinda need the tail this year....

it really depends on how you'll use it and how often to make it worth it. Not sure anyone can answer that but you ;)

If you asked me this a year ago, I would of TOTALLY told you to go for it.

BUT, after a year, I'm sort of like "Wow I'm glad I got my tail cheap when I could..." If you are completely passionate about mermaiding and will continue to be, go for it. I thought last year this was going to be my absolute passion but over the course of a year, I feel quite grown out of it. I LOVE looking at tails, talking about them, and being on the mernetwork. But would I ever buy another tail? Probably not. Unless I won the lottery or someone gave it to me for free. I think a silicone tail is great if you're doing gigs and making a profit or charity with it. But if you're just going to swim in it for recreation, I don't think it's worth it. I mean three grand for a tail? It's like a down payment on a car :\

I would say no. A loan means you end up paying more in the long run, and while silicone tails are great and all, if you need to get a loan for it, it's not worth it.

Besides, if you don't need to pay rent, just your other living expenses, and you're willing to make payments for the loan, why not just save that money you'd be willing spend on the payments each month? At least then you won't owe anything, and you'll have enough time to look around and see what's going on with each maker (some makers go through rough patches, some create new designs that are better than their old ones, etc.), which tails you like best, and most importantly, settle 100% on a design you'll love for the entire life of the tail. Tastes can change, so it's best to put as much time as possible into shopping around for a silicone tail before actually purchasing it.

I do plan on having several well paying gigs lined up in the coming year. the loan is mostly because frankly, I dont have the time to save up in addition to the construction time of the tail. I would borrow from a family member, but I have problems asking for that much money as a "Favor". I've had a neoprene tail by Shell Tail Labs for almost two years now--and it's held up wonderfully, but its just not making the cut anymore.

I set up an appointment with my bank loan officer....I'll see what my interests rates and payments will be.

I prefer the more muted colours of the first one - the second seems a bit too neon. And I like the yellow of the first one too, it makes it look like seaweed!

Agreed, I like yours better!

Be careful buying a tail and thinking it's going to be here this year..the year is almost over...and I bought a tail at the beginning of the year that STILL isn't here...Just because you want the tail early, doesn't mean you'll get it. And once you make the order, you can't cancel it, no refund. So if you have gigs booked, without the tail, I would be careful...just a personal opinion though.

While Finfolk does have a quick turnaround, I do agree with Krystal - best to get the tail first and then get the gigs because what happens if the tail isn't ready by the time you have to perform? Though you are rushing it so I'm going to hope for the best for you!

Honestly, i'm disappointed in the design. :(
While i understand that this is something that you want, it's not how i imagined you with your future silicone tail. You were gorgeous with your former tail and i think that you should keep that look.

I like Finfolks but i don't feel much those "beta" tails. Call me "old-fashioned" or "little-minded" but i like mermaids with classic flukes much better. :$
