Just saw this post by The Mertailor.
The Mertailor Eric Ducharme:
I want to start the existence of a NEW type of "Mermaid and Mermen Community". Does anyone want to join my journey and live the Mermaid Life? www.themertailor.com
Don't know what to think of it, any thoughts?

Maybe he is starting a mer forum with less drama / hatemongering?

Any community that involves human interaction will have drama. Anyone who says differently is selling something. Oh wait... ;)

most of the performers and vendors here are selling something. But hatemongering and hate fests can be kept at bay by moderators if it is one of the community's values.

It seems like he would rather have a community made of facebook fans rather than actual mermaids and mermen.
Beside, i'm sorry to be the one saying it but drama always start somewhere and it started with him and his former behavior two years ago.

Two years ago Frenchman. Is all this really necessary?
I expected to wake up an go to a FANTASY site for escapism! Not this cattiness! I can stay in the real world for this kind of bs.

Get a breath of fresh air or something. Why are you so negative?
I personally could give a rat's ass but I don't like watching hatefests on a site that is supposed to be about fantasy, surrealism and art.
PS: :group hug:Thank you for removing the rant post that used to be above this.

Pretty cool. I'm glad for him :) there's always a positive side to every situation. So maybe look at it that way.

Actually,

this.
Oh, and @AbyssalMer.
You signed up only last night, and have already posted in several "drama" threads?
I usually hate it when people are called out just because they are new, but if their very first posts are something like this:
"Could they possibly just be two people selling monofins? There doesn't have to be drama or back stories or anything, why cant it just be "OH LOOK! ANOTHER MERMAID MONOFIN! How cool!" instead of "Ok. Something is up and none of us seem to have noticed it. According to some people, there is a connection between The Mertailor's new line, and Oceanika, and wondered about it. An awful lot going on behind the scenes there."
Like really? just stop."
and
"Unfortunately, I am not a fan of ravens, I kind of lost interest in her when a friend showed me her rubber necklaces and then showed me that she used crown molding from Home Depot to make them, i want to get something that hard work and sweat and time went into, not something store bought. it's just not something I look for in a tailmaker, I was thinking of going to mermaid shelly! "
,
then even I cannot help but wonder.
Also, I hate drama as much as everyone, but there is a difference between "drama", and the complete inability to deal with honest criticism.

Interestingly, I like this forum because all the other ones I've been a member of have groups of bored people who will actually pick fights and start shit over very tiny things (like asking questions....any question) that are treated with respect here. I've had basic posts picked apart and treated like nefarious conspiracies. The silicone tail wars are pretty silly, but I just avoid those and usually have no problems here.

This. How many folks here are also following their pods in a Facebook group, follow a fellow mer's blog, or have a mer avatar in Second Life? The more the merrier (mer-rier?).
Color me curious as to how this new community will be "new", though.

That's interesting that you mention 2nd Life Aeolius. I have seen chat forums that have something like 2nd life on the forum. That would be nice in a new community for one. That way when people get hot under the collar they can go take a swim as their avatar and cool down or something :$. I stopped using 2nd life before I ever tried a mermaid avatar. It got boring to me after a while personally. :sad eyes:

There are two popular viewers, forgot their names.
I'm always using the official one, because I just don't trust third party software.

I don't see hatemongering here at all, and I avoid the drama by not taking part. Any place where a lot of people of different walks of life get together will have what people are calling drama.
GoldenPearl, it's clear you're a big fan of MerTailor. A lot of us aren't. This disagreement doesn't constitute hate-mongering. It constitutes human interaction, we don't all agree. I happen to think he likes the drama he causes, and it will come out on his forum. Some people thrive on it. It gets them attention, and it allows them to not attend to the real crap in their lives which they don't face. If not, then yay, he grew up and is doing better, and that's good for the Mer community in general.
I personally love it here, and if someone asked, I'd never say it's a drama-filled place, because that's actually a very small part of the atmosphere of MerNetwork and it is not my experience. If it is what you focus on, that's different. Like with most places, including clubs, groups, orgs, of any kind, it's *usually* the people who always talk about hating drama that cause most of it. And if you're not causing any of it, it's easy enough to ignore the occasional flare up.

hatemongering? lol... I haven't seen any of that on here, expect from people who have been banned, and I've been here from the start, and the old forum too.
I think if he has his own mertailor forum that's fine. Loads of artists do that, you see it a lot with webcomic authors who make forums for people to discuss their stuff. Maybe he can answer more questions about his own product that way. But honestly, people have tried to "rival" mernetwork before, and it never works. There may be 'drama' in our community (which, hello, take a look at how many members there are!) but there is also sincerity, kinship, and loads of hard workers. Plus, uncensored reviews.

That was my first thought, honestly.
While I've never dealt with him personally, I tend to watch my potential tailmakers very closely. I want to make sure my hard-earned money is well spent with a quality product. From what I've seen, Mertailor continues to have problems and cause drama though it seems to be lessened in the past few years (which is really good!) However, I still don't trust him from a customer standpoint. This is just my opinion.
But you will get drama when there is more than one person involved whether it's mermaiding, roleplay, doll collecting or what-have-you. Where it's "XYZ tailmaker sucks" here, it's "ABC doll company sucks" there.
My experience on Mernetwork has been pleasant. I wouldn't say it's a hate-mongering cesspit of drama at all. Disagreements happen but this forum is pretty tame compared to a lot of the ones I frequent! XD [/tangent]
Anyhoo, I know I will not be joining the Mertailor's network right now but I am curious to see how it all pans out.

I've said it before and I will say it again. Drama is everywhere. You will not go ANYWHERE in life without it.
Just like politics. If you can form an opinion, there will be drama. Drama is the debate between opinions and mindsets. If you think that going to a new site will magically make it go away, I fear you're living in a delusional state of mind.
I feel like this site will be a place for his fan club to hide to be honest. I don't see it being much larger than that.

I totally agree! Mertailor's forum will be for his followers and fans... nothing wrong with that. If you want to talk about mertailor that will be the place to be. But if you want a full and comprehensive view of all tailmakers and what people are doing to take tail making to the next level (and sharing the how tos on how to do what they do), this is where you will want to look.

This disagreement doesn't constitute hate-mongering.Does in Mertailor Land. Source: Any contentious comment thread on his Facebook page. If you ever want to be reminded that you should just 'ignore the haters', where 'hater' can mean anything from 'somebody who hates you' to 'somebody pointing out that certain behaviors are unprofessional' or 'somebody pointing out that maybe, just maybe, you were wrong here', hop over there for a minute. If I had a few hundred or thousand people who thought I was the greatest and could do no wrong, despite occasionally doing wrong and blaming everybody but myself when I do, I'd want to gather them all up in one place so I could bask in the constant warm love-glow too, while ruling over them with a benevolent velvet-gloved iron fist and a power over any who dare disagree with me that Facebook fan pages just can't provide.
We're all preemptively banned from there, by the way :P

If he wants to start his own forum why not :| it's people's choice if they wanna join, no one is forcing anyone to do anything right?
