My Second and/or Third Tail?!?

So I'm planning on my second and maybe my third tail even though I just finished my first one and I do want a latex or silicone. But anyways... I don't know which will come first cause I like both but, here they are, my designs I drew: a lion fish and a clownfish:


If I did lion fish first I plan on making my own mono fin and the spines would be kinda stiff but flimsy like they would be on real life. I was thinking maybe craft foam? And in between would be shear fabric. And if probably get thick white fabric and red and orange paint. Thick because if its thin you can see through it.

As for the clownfish, I would just use a wave mono fin and then leave a little at the end to flow. Since it is almost the same color scheme I would do thick white fabric then do range and black paint. But at the bottom of the fluke where it flows I would probably just get black fabric. Now for the extra fins on this one I would do what I did for my current tail and use plastic folders (I extended my two fins into one fin with my first tail) and duct tape them over then fabric of course.

For both I'm thinking I would get crystal clear iris sequins from CCartwright and put random ones around the whole tail for a little realistic sparkle. :)

Please tell me what you guys think and please don't steal my designs. And any questions ask also any helpful comments on things I could do also please tell.

I have a question to start it off, how can I make a dummy of my legs so I can paint and the paint won't stretch and crack when I put it on after. I'm thinking maybe stuffing a pair of skinny jeans with bubble wrap of something. ??? Help???

I'm planning on making a duct-tape dummy of my lower body when I'm ready to paint my tail. You can use one of the guides here, and just adapt it to make a form of your legs instead of your torso. You won't have to de-commission a perfectly good pair of pants, and you can use your leg form again and again! ;)

Nothing else I can tell you right now, I've barely even started making my first tail! I have sewn other garments before and I knew about the duct-tape dress-form trick. From reading other mers' tailmaking adventures I think that's the technique a lot of people use, too. If I find out anything else useful as I go along I'll be sure to let you know!

LOL, my first tail is going to be kind of based on the whole group of scorpionfishes... Simply because I found the perfect fabric on red tag sale (discontinued?), and when I started looking at fishes to see what the print looked like, it closesly resembles scorpionfish patterns. (Lionfish are in the scorpionfish [Scorpaenidae] family) But mine is defintely not stripey, nor a Lionfish! I did kind of fall in love with different Lionfish mer-tails when I saw a beautiful Lionfish mer sculpture on Deviantart :)

It's so cool your trying for the spines! (I need stiff and flexible fins for my first tails design.) But, using foam foe a tail will probably be hard, seeing as it basically needs a water proof pocket for it. But when sewing the foam, you need to put a layer of tissue paper inbetween the fabric and the foam or else the foam will be torn.

But... I really like the Clownfish design, I was thinking of making a Clownfish, but yours is so much cooler then what I was thinking of. Don't want to copy.I

Well, I'm gonna start a whole new thread, cause ASA we get the funds (using Kickstarter), I'm going to actually get to start my silicone tail. I have a top 5 design pile in which I am redoing them a little. Both of these are included and I like the other three as well. We just have to pick which to do for a first (technically second, I have a fabric tail) tail of silicone that would be easiest but also stunning. So ASA I get that thread up, it will have pictures, ideas and questions. And when I start the process, I will go from there. :) just thought I'd let you all know. :)
