Looking for a silicone or silicone/neoprene realistic tail FAST

Hey Everyone,

I am brand new to the forum, and actually new to the whole realm of mermaid tails. I am actually the President of a nonprofit ocean conservation institute that is launching Sept. 1st. Our logo will feature a mermaid, and that is how I discovered and fell in love with mermaid tails. I have looked at the forum reviews on tail makers, but most seem to have a long production time. I really need a tail much sooner for a photo shoot.

Does anyone have one that they are looking to sell? I am really tiny and typically a size 0. 5 feet 4 inches, and 95 lbs.

I am open to colors, but want the tail itself to have a realistic vibe. I thought I would take a shot in the dark and see if anyone had one they were looking to sell ASAP!

I'd go for a magic tail. They have a lovlely scale pattern and look great in the water and out. Gof first time tail and because they are bulk made it will be just a case of shipping.

I am near Tampa Florida. I thought about renting, but the only company that I found wanted $600 for 2 hours!!

You aren't going to be able to buy a tail on such short notice - especially a realistic one - for less than a few thousand, I'm afraid.

$600 is practically a steal, I'm afraid. It's expensive because silicone is difficult to work with, pricey, and damages easily if the wearer doesn't know what they're doing.

Does it have to be you on the photo shoot? Maybe you could get a Florida-based mer to come pose, or maybe even several, and then when you get a tail, you can slip in and it won't be as obvious a change from one mermaid to another?

In case you haven't already- Try Eric the Mertailor or Raven with Merbellas. They are both in your area, you could be able to rent from them- if you haven't tried them yet, of course. good luck!

600 was not to buy a tail....it was to rent a premade one for 2 hours. I have contacted Raven and am purchasing a custom one from her for future use but I unfortunately can't delay the shoot for the time it would take to make one. I have no problem spending money on something good quality but 600 bucks for a 2 hour rental is hard to justify.

Raven isn't taking orders now anyways because she's changing shops. $600 to rent a realistic tail IS reasonable, all things considered, those tails retail for $3,000, so really, if you ruin the tail you rented, they lose out on almost $2400... Which honestly is ALWAYS the gamble when letting people use a tail who've never worn a tail before.

If YOU want to wear the tail, and you NEED it... well, I think even a fabric one is out of reach with this time frame.

I agree with Echinacea's suggestion on hiring a local model who already has a tail of her own. It's impossible to get a new silicone tail with anything less than three months notice, since silicone takes forever to cure, and won't cure under certain weather conditions. It's next to impossible to get a used one since because they're a $3000+ investment, most mers wear theirs until they can be worn no more, and those that do sell them are few and far between, much less with something that will fit one mer to another.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. Yes, as president of the company it is important that I wear the tail instead of a hired mermaid. I appreciate the advice. Thanks to some of you, I was able to get a wonderful and realistic tail that fits like a glove for the shoot this weekend. I couldn't be happier!
