The absolute coolest thing happened to me today...I made a beautiful fabric mermaid tail from this fabulous deep teal lamé, with iridescent chiffon for the tail fin, and went out into the lake to try it out. It flashed like a sapphire in the water and the fin shimmered like a flowing pale green jewel.

I had circled the nearly empty lake and was heading back to my dock when from up on the hill, I hear a little girl screaming "A MERMAID! A MERMAID!" at the top of her lungs! I looked up and there was a birthday bbq party going on, bouncy castle, kiddie pool, at least twenty people...I swam closer and waved and this little girl lost her mind! Soon, all the kids were yelling... I swam around the bend and out of sight, but not before slapping my tail on the water and blowing kisses goodbye.

I'm still chuckling every time I think about it. :D

Pearlie Mae, will you be posting pictures of this tail, soon? I love the sound of it, but I'm having trouble picturing it tonight. (maybe because my toddler keeps coming to say hi and rattle the child gate.:) )

How sweet! I bet she will be talking about it for the rest of her life! I can just imagine...she will have kids of her own someday and tell them the story about the mermaid in the lake.....:D

Aww that's just perfect! On one of the kids' birthdays, too! That's hilarious how excited the girl got over it... but, admittedly, I would have probably reacted the same way LOL.

One time in elementary school one of the other girls in my class came back from spring break and told me that she had seen a mermaid in a lake! I was SO incredibly jealous, you have no idea. I was really upset that she had gotten to see a mermaid but I didn't. This would've been... around twelve or so years ago so I guess mers have been around for a while. Anyways, I hope that when I eventually get a tail I'll be able to have a similar experience. Then another little girl can go back and brag to her class about having seen a mermaid and make all of her classmates just as jealous as I was! XD
