I have to say- I agree.

Don't be mistaken, though- most of us here are supportive, and are totally in favour of you going for your dreams? HOWEVER, most of us are already kinda floundering around and working really, REALLY hard to earn money to fulfil our own mermaiding dreams. Maybe you could reach out to your facebook connections instead, or start crafting so you have some trinkets to sell.

Cookie isn't new/unknown. SHe's been around longer than most of you ;) she just wasn't active on the forum. Many of us long timers know her, and you know, I posted on meryuku about my own fundraiser right? I mean, we may not be able to give her money but that doesn't mean she can't share what she's doing, and we can't share it for her too on our own networks. And she did post it in the correct place, in the classifieds.

Cookie, keep posting on deviantART! one of my biggest sponsors came from there! :)

Welcome to the forums Cookie! I wish you luck, I think every mermaid deserves to have a tail, even if for one day.

I'll be starting a fundraiser in the future myself. I've had a lot of friends link me to their fundraisers, and what I've noticed works best is if you have a lot of really neat, handmade "prizes" to offer. People like to get cool things, haha! Especially if there's a variety of different types of things. You said you're going to be a mermaid for only one day? Well a signed photo from the shoot is a good small "prize", as well as a special "behind the scenes"-type video you could make only for supporters :) All of my personal friends with super-successful fundraisers really worked their tushies off for it, but their dreams came true and it's awesome when that happens!

Do you do any social networking other than FB? I know Twitter is a great way to reach out, as well as Tumblr. If you do Deviantart as well, that's awesome!

Fundraisers can be done well, you just need to have a lot of incentives for people to give you monies sometimes, especially if you're not well-known or a celebrity or something. Unless you're advertising in some of the more interesting places on the internet where people have mermaid fetishes and the like... :$


Golden Pearl, I thought Julz *was* told similar things when she posted her fundraiser? Especially since she was waiting on a shipment of sea glass to make jewelry with for it... It's kind of a common reaction when fundraisers haven't been fully fleshed out with incentives and awesome graphics and videos yet. I think it's more we just haven't heard much from Cookie since she only recently joined the network, so us new members haven't really gotten the chance to know her yet.
