Mermaid nails

This is a question to all of you lovely mers, specially those of you that do professional work: how do you like to do your nails (if you do them) for a performance?

I know that a mermaid would not have access to nail polish, but this Summer I have been doing my nails in blue; mostly to go with my tail color. I found these tutorials in YouTube and loved them, specially the first one (I have done that one a couple of times):

I love the first one, with the green/aqua/blue colors and the scales!! My nails are little short round things, and I dislike fake nails, so I don't paint or decorate mine at all. I still love to look, though!! :)

This summer I made up my own mermaid nails they are made using sand and clear nail polish so it looks very natural and mermaidy!! It looks much better in person and would be awesome if you are a mermaid who frequents the beach!!

i did gold fish scale nails! here's a little how to
you'll need:
loose glitter
a clear base coat
a clear top coat
a coloured creme polish (optional)
olive oil

1.) apply your base coat to your nails and allow to dry for one minute
2.) apply the coloured polish or the base coat polish to your nails
3.) quickly sprinkle (toes) or roll the nails (fingers) in your loose glitter, gently press the tips of your nails to avoid hanging pieces of glitter, allow to dry for 1 minute
4.) apply your clear top coat ontop of your glitterfied nails, allow to dry for 1 minute
5.) drip small drops of olive oil, by using the end of a spoon or fork, onto your nails be sure to cover your whole nail with olive oil
6.) repeat step 5.) once or twice (i opt for twice just to be sure they're hard) then wash your hands in cold water (almost icy) water gently with soap
and voila glitter nails! on my toes they last for about 3 weeks before chipping and on my nails approximately a week or more

Where do you get one of those konad stamp things? And are they expensive?

If you get them from Amazon they can be pretty inexpensive, so much so that I'd buy a couple of different plates to make shipping worth it! You would also need the scraper and stamper, so if you don't have one (I got a cheap set from Wal-Mart) You would have to get those too. They're fairly easy to use, only take one or 2 tries to get it right. (Not the Konad brand, but they do the same thing!)

When I do kids' parties, I usually just paint my nails one color that matches my tail, to save time and effort. But I like calling them my "fingerscales." I just tell children that we have special under-the-sea paint that we use to make them change colors.

Ahh I love nail art so much. I'm absolutely hopeless at looking after my nails so I generally make a bunch of stick on nails and wear them when I know I don't need to do anything strenuous. Bad habit of using my nails as tools.

I've looked for purple nail polish that would go with my purple Magictail... I WILL wear it one day...

But of all the purples I looked at, they reminded me of cadavers. Like in Corpse Bride where she is all shades of purple!

I just found a nice shade of purple, not too dark or light, Sally Hansen's Gem Crush. Its really pretty and not corpse like!

I've used Sally Hansen's Black and Blue, they alternate between a deep blue, purple, and sometimes green according to the lighting and angle. I then did my thumb nail with Mermaids Tale by Sally Hansen, the color is truly amazing. I don't think this picture does it justice. I had to use the black and blue as my base before I put on the Mermaids Tale

I thought about using that Sally Hansen combo before too, it's lovely! My buddy and I picked those colors out for her nieces back before I knew much about nail polish, and occasionally I think about picking them up myself. I try to only buy nail polish that I think I'll use for lots of things though, because I have too many <3

I asked for an ocean themed nail stamping plate set for our anniversary, so maybe I'll put some pics soon, too!

I learned two things today-
First, I have no idea how to photograph nails. They're actually shades of turquoise. Oh well.

Second, lower quality plates can be irritating to work with. I didn't figure out how to get consistent images from this design until after spending several hours trying different stamping techniques. It turns out that this image doesn't like to have polish applied directly to the engraving. Maybe it dries in the fine lines as I'm scraping, I don't know. Most of the time it wouldn't pick up an image at all, or it would be so patchy that it wasn't worth using.
I finally found out by accident that it would give a consistent image by applying the polish next to the engraving, then flooding the image with the scraper. I wish I had figured it out before I decided to make do with whatever best images I could get out of it, but oh well.

So I'm learning that some images are picky about how you stamp. My Moyou London plates aren't nearly as fussy, so I've been spoiled.

Now that I know how to use it, I'm going to do another simple scale design with black and gold next, then I'll probably start playing with more complicated designs with the rest of the plates. There are some really cool images in this collection.
