So I made my first latex tail a little while ago, and I was honestly just very.... meh about it. i liked it, it was cool, but I honestly didn't want to wear it. I thought for a bit that it was just that mermaiding wasn't really for me, and that I just wasted a lot of money.

However, my boyfriend wanted to film a mermaid film. So I said okay, what do you need from me? So I embarked on a tail repainting journey, which I thought was going to end in tears and sadness.

And then I realized holy shit I love my tail!

This is not 100% done yet, I still have some gold stripes to make (I think), there's some textures I want, mainly spots etc. However, this is the base, and I couldn't be happier.

Now this was the tail I wanted.

AND even better? Every scale is hand painted.

Beautiful! I love the orangey-pink blend :) What were the original colours?

The original colors were actually blue and white, haha. Umm...

Basically I used acrylic paint originally, which made it... dull? I think dull would be the right word. But it's my first tail, so I learned a lot I suppose. haha.

Now I want to make another just to see what colors I can get out of it.

Ah, I don't remember seeing your previous paint job. Maybe I missed it. I'm glad you like the new color scheme- what kind of paint is it? It looks bright, which is surprising considering it's latex. Nice job :)

Thanks so much everyone!

ShyMer, paint wise that's the same thing people have been using in silicone. It's just Pearl Ex, and I've seen some silicone tails painted with it and it looks exactly the same. Idk if it's the latex I'm using, or how I'm doing it, but there's not really a difference that I can tell yet.

I'll let you know what happens after I swim. A thin layer on top of more latex is very likely to rip, so we'll see!

Thanks so much!

Update for everyone! Even with a light layer of latex on top, there is zero bleeding. Granted I am swimming in fresh water, will be doing salt water in a little bit. However so far I have swam 3 times and the tail looks exactly the same!
