How we use the information we receive. We made a few updates to this section to:


emphasize that by using our services, you grant us permission to use the information we receive to operate Facebook.
add an example to underscore that we may share information with service providers when they help us provide services.
reiterate that public information may be accessed by anyone on or off Facebook.
explain that we will use profile pictures to suggest tags of you in photos.


Basically what it's saying is the same exact thing that's been going on with FB since it started, and hence, the same terms we all agreed to when we created an account. It says that when you use FB, it uses the info collected between there and Google (they're both connected) to make tailored ads to increase revenue. This is why I generally visit FB for a few minutes a day, and keep myself logged out otherwise. Same thing with Google, I log out of Gmail all the time so I don't have to watch their bots tracking my search history. Granted, Google will track me without me being logged in, but at least it's a little less connected to me. This has been going on for ages.

As far as FB being allowed to use your photos - I don't see that anywhere. I see a section that states they use all the info you give them to run FB; and I see a section that states that any info you label as "public" will, indeed, be public! Which means, not just to FB people, not just to your friends, it means public.

Really, all this is is FB trying to clarify what their terms already are, since so many people have been getting confused, especially by the websites that every few months claim that FB is selling your images to some creeper in China or something. Don't want everyone seeing your stuff? Make it private, or don't post it. FB is absolutely NOT a private "thing", the whole point of the site is sharing, not privacy. But, that's kind of the point of the internet. Believe it or not, you're leaving little traces of yourself all over the internet that can let hackers get into your computer, see your images on your hard drive, and operate your webcam, if you have one (why do you think I don't have one?) FB's not pulling a fast one on you, they're just trying to make sure everyone knows exactly what their terms are, but websites like this who get people all riled up and not reading the actual documents are really what is confusing people about FB.

I've used FB for a while now, never seemed to have been hacked, never had to make a new profile, and I have thoroughly read all the rules. I've never had my pictures stolen (by FB at least), and I am fully aware that ANY information I put out on the web is no longer private.

Honestly, I'm more worried about the ginormous databank of info the U.S. Government is collecting on us. There's a HUGE facility being built in Utah I believe, just a massive collection bank. And of course, who can forget that the U.S. Government also has both real people and bots reading EVERY SINGLE THING you do online. *waves* Hi, Government Peoples! Let me know when I can safely search for things I need for crafting without setting off the "terrorist" alarm! (see, I used a few choice words, and now they'll most DEFINITELY be looking at this page, at least until they can figure out that the only reason I want to search for pressure cookers and such is for crafts (LMAO I said pressure cooker, ah ha now they're having a fit reading all the data they've ever collected on me)

My point is: absolutely NOTHING on the internet is private. Facebook is not selling all your info and pics. Of course they use your info, you're using a free website that is always up and running, maintained, and has loads of features. FB is not trying to steal your pics, even if you're a professional photographer (photogs get all paranoid about their work every time this scare goes around, as if putting their artwork on FB for all to see wasn't already kind of "giving it away").

Snopes.com is a great website for figuring out what's real on the internet, and what's just blogs trying to scare you to get more readers.

I completely agree. And again, it's not like you have your credit cards, social security number, drivers license, ect on your facebook. You choose what you want to be seen and that's up to you. If you don't want people to know, don't put it online.
