Hi everybody!!! I go this idea is it possible to make a tail with a silicone fluke but just a spandex fabric body? The only part with silicone on it being the fluke. I want to do it this way because making a full silicone tail is to expensive and because I love the look of silicone flukes!! They are just so realistic!!! If this would work the only problem I could think of would be how to smoothly attach the fluke to the tail. Please tell me any comments or concerns you have with this method!

Sure, it will work! I would make the two pieces separately, fluke and spandex tail, make a mannequin of your feet into your monofin, slide on your spandex tail and pin it in place with straight pins. Use the silicone caulk I mentioned in another thread and adhere the fabric to the fluke with it. Once it is sealed into place, take pea-sized globs of the caulk and smear them on in a scale pattern up the to about ankle height and then fade them into the fabric. Practice that scale pattern on some scrap until you get the hang of it!
Well, that is how I would do it. Making the fluke over the monofin it up to you!
Good luck!

You can totally do that! Silicone flukes can be so flowy and awesome. I would recommend making silicone scales if you have extra silicone after making the fluke because that would really add to the tail!

If I wanted to make the fluke with latex would this still work? Because I think that the latex would be less expensive than silicone. Also if this would work what kind of latex should I use?
Currently "growing" my tail!
Lots of love!!!

I answered this question over on my other thread... :)
Besides, why skimp? This is going to be your "crowning glory", so if it takes a little while longer to save for it, won't it be worth it in the end?
