I'm stuck.I have the two tail designs I plan to make, but I don't want to make either of those first, and I don't really have enough to order all the materials right now. But that's not really what I had questions about.I have this black velvet fabric, slightly transparent three shade of blue fabric that looks like water, wanted to use that for the fluke and this holographic transparent blue fabric. Wanted to use those. But, I can't figure out a good natural looking transition, any ideas? (The oonly thing I'm thinking of is doing the little mmermaid thing at the waist with the holographic blue.)

LOL I'm planning on doing the "little mermaid" waist (I also call it the "Atlantica" waist LOL) on some of my fabric tails as well. One will be red stretch velvet with pink transparent fabric (like in my profile pic, not my avatar), and my scale-print poly-spandex tail has black transparent fabric. I was planning on making the front corners rounded, then doing s little tiny gathering/ruching right at the point in the front.

Can't wait to see your tails :D

It's really hard to get a good transition from scales to skin without Photoshop. The best transitions I've seen usually have the top of the tail painted to match your skin color so the scales fade to skin. It sounds like you could use the transparent blue fabric to get a similar effect but it could still be a sharp contrast. I like the little mermaid idea with the waist though. I've seen tails with that and it look pretty good but once you start swimming the fabric you use might flop around or look differently than you want it to.

That will be an awesome tail! XD And yeah, at least the fabric is stiffer then the other fabric I have.

I guess the little mermaid is the best idea! I'm so failing at a fluke design right now. :P
