View Full Version : Halloween!!

Halloween is getting closer and closer, and so I thought I would start a thread with some halloween ideas/fun that others could share in.
These are NOT MY original ideas and take no credit for them, I either learned them from a tutorial on youtube,Martha Stewart, or TV.

First off, Insanely cheap zombie makeup/cuts on face etc., so many possibilities.
This method involves using White school glue, to glue pieces of 2 ply toilet paper to your face, then paint the pieces.
Here is what I managed on a first try with the method.( The coverup I was using didnt really match my skin tone but it was fun and didnt look too terrible hehe)
12181219
Here is the original tutorial I got the inspiration from on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuMt-N0bnww

Secondly, Who doesnt love carving a pumpkin!?
This method I first saw being used by Martha Stewart and then again later in a documentary about Michael Angelo.
It seems he used a very similar method to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, only instead of punching holes he made slits instead. which is pretty much the same method I used on the styrofoam to make fins in the tailmaking section.

Basically you take your image and tape it to the pumpkin, Then take a thumb tac or something sharp and poke holes all along the lines of the design.
When your finished you can peel the paper off and you are left with a sort of "connect the dots" guide to do your pumpkin carving.
most of the pumpkins Ive done are either meant as a pumpkin template on the internet, or just a google image I printed off.
here is some pics of pumpkins ive done in past years: 12201221122212231224 last one is a violin if anyone cant make it out hehe ^_^

I wanted to be sailor moon for halloween she was my hero growing up. I bought a wig online but it didnt turn out anything like I hoped and is also too small so Im weary of buying the rest of the costume. I was Gaga last year, I just may try for a diff Gaga outfit this year

I love halloween! best time of the year!
This year I'm working on my skeleton tail as my "big" costume, but I'm going to be Consuela from Family Guy (the mexican maid) for when I go to parties/need to walk around lol.

I had one Halloween where I was performing at Rocky Horror, but I had to wear at least three-four costumes prior to the show even starting! (I was Janet, but I helped out in some of the "Preshows" they had for the show)

Raina! My friends and I are going as the Sailor Scouts this year! I get to be Moon. I make and sell costumes so I am doing all of ours by hand. Along with the Sailor Senshi (one of which, Venus, is being portrayed by a boy XD) we've got Neptune, Saturn, and Tuxedo Mask (who is being portrayed by a girl). We've been planning this since last year.

If you are looking for clever Halloween costume ideas, here are a few my old science teacher thought up:

Serial Killer - Strap a cereal box to your chest and stab it full of plastic knives

Black eyed Pea - Put a ring of black makeup around your eye and tape a sign to your chest/back with the petter P on it

Facebook - Put a stretchy headband on your head and position a small book on your face, using the headband to hold it up.

(PS If anyone is looking for a custom costume, hit me up! I can show you some of my work and give you a quote.)

Wear no costume "little girl (or boy) what are you" " I'm a psychopathic killer ( insert psychopathic head tilt) I look like everyone else"

This one I did for a contest in an MMORPG I used to play.

Here is the inspiration for the pumpkin, and the pumpkin carved with the lights on:1225

and here it is with the lights off: 1226

this one is also a monster from the game, the Cliknar queen if you feel like googling :)

I *LOVE* Halloween as well! My only problem is choosing what to wear. I do also HATE that most costume contests revolve around who is the most naked and willing to flash their boobs. :p I get annoyed every year. lol.

Okay, I know this is sort-of off topic, but people keep mentioning Sailor Moon, so I couldn't resist. This is me at age 12:

1231

And no, I wasn't wearing a wig. My hair is kinda huge. My mom and I made the costume together (she did most of the sewing bits, I did the crafty bits and put together patterns). :)

Sailor Moon characters are very fun costumes, certainly. I've done a pretty full range of costume types, I've been everything from a giant crab, to Peter Pan. I love Halloween. This wil be my 15th year in a row (skipping one) throwing a party on October 31st. Apple bobbing, live band, DJs, costume-contest, tons of pumpkins, tons of candy, a themed bar, circus acts, the works. If you live near Oakland/San Francisco, you should come. We end the night with a proper pagan ritual, too, for those like me who find spiritual significance in the holiday. <3

Not where I'm from.

Last year's winner at my party was the best Borg I've ever seen. Really impressive. 2nd went to the full Mario Brothers cast. Bowser was particularly charismatic, the costumes were accurate, not skankified. ;)

2) Man, I wish it was like that here! I keep hoping that maybe I just haven't found the right venue for costume contests. :p

Love the zombie pic!! I am going to be Harley Quinn (Joker's "girlfriend", nutcase, enemy of Batman) for Halloween this year! I have the classic costume, and also got a straight jacket that I had ARKHAM ASYLUM spray painted on it for an asylum outfit.

Halloween is my all time favorite Holiday. I met my husband at the Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando. He had worked with my friend (at the time)'s dad. He works in horror movies and so needless to say our house is filled with Horror movie memoribila.

Melbel your costumes are fantastic! Thank you for sharing images. :) I'm crafty, but don't really sew at all (no machine), so I'm always completely wowed by made-from-scratch costumes (rather than my style of modified thrifted things).

There's so much to do before Halloween! I'm getting excited.

Seeing as how we're now posting pics or our costumes, here's me in my half-assed zombie costume that I just threw together tonight. Its pretty lame compared to the other costumes in this thread but whatever. I needed something since in my opinion its totally unacceptable to go out on Halloween without a costume.

I love Halloween as well! It's been years since I've dropped money on a costume - I usually just throw something together. I have enough costume like things that I wear on a day to day basis that I don't do too bad :P However this year I decided to drop some money on a costume, and picked up a Cheshire Cat costume. No pics yet- me and my friends had a pumkin carving party last night, but we're planning to actually dress up and go out on actual Halloween. We even took Tues off so we could stay out all night :) I also carved my first pumpkin this year!

No, that contest specifically advertises that it's the 'naughty' contest (if you are talking about the 'After Dark' one not the masquerade). I'm talking about most bar contests.

Yeah, it was the DragonCon After Dark costume contest. I knew they were going to be sexy costumes and there's nothing wrong with that. Its just that all the girls seemed to think that just doing a really uninspired cosplay and then taking their top off was impressive. Lots of girls have nice boobs. I wanted to see something really clever and entertaining and original.

Hey guys! I'm still alive.

I freaking love Halloween. One of my favorite things about it is doing crazy makeup, so this year I went with a creepy doll theme. I made a key because I was going to be a wind-up doll, but I ended up not using it. Oh well!

If I'd had more time (I vastly underestimated how much of an early start I'd need for my grad school classes) I would've made more bells and whistles, but I was still pretty pleased with how it turned out.
