There gorgeous! (can't wear them so, none for me. XD ) was that bead used in the phantom of the opera? It's really nice.

Aww, thank you all so much! I do love traditionally-knotted beads (A good knot between every bead), And it's so soothing to string and knot them, like meditation...

Syrena: That is such a wonderful compliment! :sad eyes: Making me want to cry...

Meemerdd: Yes, it was actually used on the Broadway PotO chandelier (named "Ruthie II")! They re-string them every year, and sell some of the beads at Broadway Cares, a charity fundraiser :) I am entirely too big of a Phantom "Phan" (even though I've never had the chance to see it on stage), and this bead has been my "ultimate dream possession" since high school... And now I'm freaking out because there's only the one left that this person is selling!

Edited to add: OMG YAY I'm getting the bead I wanted!!! OMG OMG I can't thank you enough! This is the best thing EVER!!! :p

Meemerdd: Why can't you wear necklaces? That would be a shame... I am addicted to necklaces! I have so many pendants, but I am allergic to most metal chains... Even sterling silver! -_-; (Hence why I have a silver chain on a pendant up there).

Every metal other then gold I've tried putting on my neck, is no good. (I eat metal, I can show you slightly caroded red metal from attempts at wearing it. XD but I did wear stainless steal on my finger once.) And the rash, and the green my skin turns. Don't want to spend very much when I have rare occasions to wear the stuff.
Then there are necklace cords, that annoyingly enough use the same sort of dye used in handsoaps, specifically soft soap brand. (some use better dyes, but, I try to only use clear stuff.) The dye makes me scale and rash, it isn't pleasant. (By scale I mean bits of skin will actually pull up slightly, and it doesn't actually fall off, making a pattern like fish scales. It's, strange.)

Oh heavens to Betsy, sounds like you have some really sensitive skin! I recently bought some silver embroidery thread to weave myself a necklace cord from (I do Kumihimo), I don't know what the dye is but it is super silky and feels great on my skin...

I recently discovered I can wear gold... which is funny because I never liked gold, but my mersona sure does! :p I have ONE silver ring (set with moonstone) I can wear all the time, and oddly enough I got it for $10 at a metaphysical shop... I also can wear really REALLY high grade stainless steel, I have a um... *cough cough* collar-type necklace from a wonderful crafter, and the chain he also made for my BF to wear with his key is also really high grade, so I'm considering asking him if I can just purchase a chain from him. I know he recently switched over to completely nickel-free for people with wicked sensitivity...

I just picked up some fishing line today (lead-free! YAY!), so I'll be stringing some more necklaces on that as well, though it will be odd to not knot between each bead LOL!

These are lovely! If you make any fresh-water themed ones let me know, I'd love to buy something off you.

Hmm, I'm getting ready to make some more soon, what are you looking for in freshwater jewelry? I'm afraid I have no fake seaweed readily available, or I would totally be using it (fake seaweed is to mermaids as glitter is to fairies, LOL)...

Throw me some ideas! Totally random ones, if you want! I'm rather new to the whole "freshwater mer" thing, LOL! I do have some pebbles from a lovely creek I camped at that are covered with pastel petrified moss, or something...

Mossy pebbles sound fantastic! Plus I suppose anything that looks like pond plants, lily pads etc - fabric, string or bits of metal could look like plants since you don't have access to plastic ones :)
Pearls (or anything that looks like pearls) work great too, as well as pain old flowers and leaves, since a fresh water mer is likely to steal them from river banks :D

Petrified wood (if you can find beads or bits of it) and amber would also be good for freshwater mer jewelry, I would think... Clam shells, too! My great-aunt had a summer camp on a lake, and she had TONS of freshwater clams there!

Miyu

Ooh, petrified wood and amber sounds like a wonderful idea! I'll have to see what I can do about that :D

I do have a bunch of pretty little white clam shells, I think they're saltwater though :P

What a great idea! I have lots of that stuff, living on a lake...but I have a tail to make! For me, jewelry making will have to wait! Besides, I would not tread on your fins like that! :D

Miyu
09-05-2013, 04:59 PM
LOL I wouldn't think you'd be treading on my fins anyways! :p Although now I'm tempted to try bartering with you for freshwater supplies, haha!

I hear there's some kind of swimming hole or lake near my house, maybe if it's nice one day I can talk the BF into going supply-hunting with me, LOL!

I'm going to dig through the stash of materials, the BF has collected rocks and shells from all over this state, maybe I'll find another chunk of petrified wood or some neat quartz chunks...

Marlin

@Miyu- I've got quite the collection of quartz rock. (both milky and the pink kinds) but they arn't smooth or shaped. Just kinda hunks of rock. Can you work with that?

Miyu
09-06-2013, 02:28 AM
Oh yes I can! Rough crystal is kind of fun to work with :D

Marlin
09-06-2013, 02:41 AM

I updated the first post with some better pics/new items!

However, the old pics I tried to get rid of are still there as attached images? How do I fix that?
