Starfish are great accessories. BUT, I wouldn't recommend swimming with them on or getting them wet. taking a dry, dead, animal and moistening it... not pretty!

I make sea stars and sell them on etsy! here : http://www.etsy.com/shop/thelocalmermaid?ref=si_shop

I'm relatively new to etsy, but so far so good! I hope you like my items!

I'm always up to doing custom orders and of course... cutting people reasonable deals! so keep in contact if you're interested!

PLUS... every purchase gets me closer to having a nice tail of my own... one that doesn't fall apart in the pool. :/ so If you're feeling philanthropic... go ahead.. purchase one! :)

Here are some examples of my handmade, real, starfish. hope you like them!

Hmm if you can make latex ones I'd probably buy from you. :|

hmm I never thought of that I just bought some dried starfish I was hoping to make into hair decorations etc. I wonder if I can coat them with something? Maybe clear nail polish? hm,mm

That might work! You would need a lot of nail polish though. hehe.. good luck! let me know how it goes!!

I'd be interested in a latex one too!

Raina; I would suggest going to a craft store and getting some actual sealant/clear coat rather than trying nail polish. Would probably be more cost effective and work better!

Question: Which starfish would you guys like? I'm working on a mold right now. Should I make a knobby/armored or a sugar starfish?

Another great material for making just about anything, really, is polymer clay. It's highly moldable, not at all messy, and water proof. I use it in all my costuming because it's just such a versatile material.

excellent! thanks guys!!! I think I will make a knobby and sugar! :) as for the polymer clay.. I have used it beofre in other projects, but I'm not too gifted when it comes to sculpting. so usually I would just make a mold!
Got all the supplies and getting ready to do it once I get a break from school! going to be great!!!
