View Full Version : Non-itchy greenery?

So I'm trying to make my top at the moment... the greenery I currently have is two sizes of a bamboo/tea leaf type, with pointy edges that tickle and dig into me no matter how I try to put them on my top. I literally had a hissy fit and tore it all off after test-wearing my top around the house for less than half an hour. Any tips on finding softer greenery that won't tickle so badly? What sort of greenery should I look for? Would something like this be less uncomfortable? http://www.walmart.com/ip/Penn-Plax-Aqua-Culture-Amazon-Sword-Large-Aquarium-Plant-Decoration-Fish-Aquatic-Pets/20976062 I just don't want to have to buy a dozen of these at nearly $5 a pop!

Oh no! Keep an eye out at dollar stores or at craft stores when they are clearing out the seasonal "silk" flowers and foliage! Find a coupon and save even more!
The ones from the pet department charge more because they allegedly use aquarium safe glue.

Maybe something with smaller, rounder leaves?

I use like 5 different kinds and I find it all itchy. Placement matters. But eventually I did get used to it.

Thanks for the suggestions, y'all. I'm thinking of using fabric leaves instead of plastic. I'm pretty sure they can handle the chlorine--I had a cheapo ivy garland in my snake's terrarium, and it got a soak in heavy Clorox water once a week. Never faded or anything. Fabric might look slightly less real, but at this point I don't care. I just want to have a top that doesn't make me scream. I've never been one that can get used to discomfort, if anything, it just seems to build until I can't think straight. I was the kid who ripped the tags out of all my clothes, lol.

Hmmm...maybe you could round the tips of the foliage you've already got with scissors?

I tried that just before posting this thread, lol. It was actually worse, because the further down I cut, the stiffer the leaf is... Also, no matter how rounded I try to make it, there's still a somewhat sharp edge. But yeah, it would seem logical to snip the ends. Gah, I wish I wasn't so picky about what touches my skin. Maybe if I can find rubber-ish type foliage... Or at least something that isn't long and pointy. I think I need to hit the dollar tree and see what they have.
