View Full Version : making a latex wig smaller?

So at long last got my tentacled latex wig, which goes over my swim cap.
I intended to use it in water, but it's far too big!
(was a "one fits all"-size...apparently people have heads big as watermelons :( )

with that much room under the wig, it'll be impossible to wear when swimming, too much water will get in and under
and bunch it up (not to mention it could be a liability with my whole head vanishing inside the superfluous latex and tentacles), so:
is there any way to make it smaller?
maybe drilling small holes and pulling strings through?

It cost a lot in shipping & taxes, so I cannot return it.

I know that people who make latex clothing use rubber cement to adhere the parts together. The rubber cement is like a solvent adhesive where it causes a chemical reaction to "melt" the parts, in effect.

There really isn't a was to test that on your wig, though. I would hate to tell you to cut darts into it to try and tighten it, then have it not work.

Would there be a way to sew it to an elastic headband on the inside?

Really not sure, since it's kind of loose everywhere, not only on the crown of the head, but also on the sides.

As you can see, it appears snug on top, but it isn't on me lol.
The sides then flop around a lot and are several inches away from the skull.
So it's quite bad and impossible to use with a tail in water :(

I've drawn a sketch of what I meant with the headband...if you have a snug piece of elastic that you could attach inside the wig at several points, then the elastic would hold it tight to your head?

It doesn't look like it was meant to withstand anything vigorous like swimming, but it looks really cool!

I was thinking to stitch it to a spandex cap, but I like your idea better. That way its usable with any cap. Good idea PearlieMae!

Caltuna, I LOVE that tentacled wig! WOW!

oh, nice sketch!
Good idea. Maybe glueing the band would be better than stitching?

And yep, I fear it wasn't meant for swimming.
Might still look good for dry shots and land-gigs though (too bad I don't do many of those xD)

Thanks!

I don't know what kind of glue to recommend, because both the headband and wig are stretchy. Sewing it just in a few points around the headband would enable it to stretch without dislodging it.
