So I recently got an email from a young lady named KJ who claimed to be a reporter from the Mermaids and Mythology magazine. I was excited to be contacted by them, thinking they wanted to interview me and do an article or something. However, as I read the letter, I got suspicious of this person, because for a reporter, her grammar and punctuation were completely lacking.

I don't have the first few emails anymore, but basically she asked me if I would donate one of my tails (I only have one) to them so their model can wear it for a photoshoot. Then in the same email she asked if I would send them MY tail for them to use. She also asked if I would make them a tail for free. Obviously this REALLY aroused my suspicion. I sent a reply saying I apologize, but I only have the one tail, so it would be impossible for me to send it to them as I need it for my own gigs, and because my tail colors are so unique to Ayla, it may confuse some young readers who see Ayla's tail on another model. I told them that I don't have the funds to make tails right now and it says on my website that I don't make tails, and again, I was sorry I couldn't accommodate, however if they wanted to have a photographer come up here, I'd be happy to do a photoshoot for them and let them use the pictures in their magazine.

no reply.

Today I got a new email from Mermaids and Mthyology, saying "so hello ayla it kj again from mermaid and mythology and we didn't know if you had got our last reply when we said if you could make us a mermaid tail as a gift .... but i f you cant we will be willing to buy a mermaid tall from you just name you price"

So then I thought to myself "okay. Clearly not a reporter, obviously a young child." so I read the email address it was coming from, and lo and behold. mermaidandmthyology. they switched the Y around so your brain would read it as mythology, but it was really mthyology.

Just putting this out there to let you guys know about it, I realize emails like this are common for other mermaids but this is the first email I've gotten from a young person trying to claim they're from a magazine to get a tail out of me. I asked her to send me proof that she was from Mermaids and Mythology if she wanted to keep discussing possible arrangements for a photoshoot. No response.

I thought it was funny. I wonder if the people over at M&M know about this.

Woooow. The lengths people will go to! Yeah anything like that is a big red flag. It turned out harmless, but what if someone would have said yes? That would be a list of crimes right there. Maybe you should reply and let them know that they could go to jail. I mean, impersonation alone is a felony. M&M could press charges if they wanted too, I'm pretty sure. It might scare them straight at least, keep this from trying again with other mermaids.

Should probably let the actual Mermaids and Mythology know that someone pulled that.

I've had this experience happen before, and believe it or not when I tracked down the people doing it they turned out to be ADULTS. :/

Yeah, I was thinking about that when I responded to them. Because at first I was talking with them like they were just a curious kid, but then I thought I should warn them a little by asking for proof. Them they'll learn that this stuff can get serious very fast.

Ordered the back issues, as I hadn't heard of this mag. before. Thanks!
