So I am designing my workshops for ncmerfest and much like my book I want to meet expectations. Each workshop will be 90 minutes. The first will be : Working With Kids as a Mer. The second will be: The First Steps to Starting a mer-business.
I have ideas for what I'm going to cover and how but I'd like your feedback on what you want to see. Even if you aren't going to be there your ideas will help. My plan is to speak for 60 minutes with interactive parts and then have 30 for questions and demonstrations.

Do you have an outline of what you already know you will be covering?

Nothing that I'm ready to release to the public yet ;) It's just important for me to know what people would want to get out of the workshop before I flesh it out too much.

Gotcha. Lemme toss a few ideas out there.
For working with kids:
games
Ways to prove you are a mermaid
When to give up trying to make them believe & what to say then
success stories
For the business:
How/Where/What to market
Appearance options (Things to do)
Website tips
fee schedule ideas
Contract requirements

Do we get to eat the children, at the conclusion of the seminar? :: ducks ::
While I am not a "professional" merman by any means, I find the topics of both seminars to be of interest. An underlying aspect between both topics would be the development of one's "mer-sona". Do you develop a complete background for your mer-self?

I have no plans on becoming professional, but I also know it is inevitable that if I swim in a tail, I am going to get asked questions, so I would be interested in how do you deal with questions from kids. What about adults? Have you had times when the kid is wide-eyed with wonder, and the adult has shot them down - 'that's just a girl/guy in a tail, a make-believe mermaid/merman' - and is there a way to smooth over situations like that? I guess mainly just how do you interact with people, big or small. :)

This may be kind of late, and alas I won't be making it to the fest, but from experience I would suggest that something that people might find useful with regards to working with children is just literally where to start when you walk (swim!) into a kids party if you haven't had experience working with children before. I think when people start doing kids entertainment stuff, there's maybe a tendency to plan the "entertainment" aspect but then not plan how to actually begin - meeting the kids, introducing yourself and them etc. So a bit of focus on that aspect (and equally, how to say goodbye!) might be useful for people who haven't done much work with kids so far :)
