Now THAT would be a cool thing to have!

One could even wear a tail with that.
And you could let go of it and swim normally at any time, then pick it up again (in shallow parts, of course :p).

It would be even better if it were a bit smaller, and less noticeably coloured.
If it blends into your body, you'd look like a mako mer when they turn on their highspeed gear ;)
