Hello everyone! My name is Jack and I just recently launched my company, Dark Tide Productions. My first official event is coming up this weekend actually. I'll be a guest of an Atlantean Pool Party at the Burbank Marriott. I wanted to let everyone know more info about the event since it will have other mers in attendance. Mer and aquatic cosplay are strongly encouraged! I think there is a separate place to post that though...
This event came to me very last minute, so excuse my bare-bones facebook and twitter which I'll be continually updating. Please also forgive me stumbling about this site until I figure out how everything works.
Looking forward to interacting with everyone!

Welcome! May I ask who your tail is by? I like the fluke.

Thanks Seavanna! and Mermaid Allie!

Seavanna: My tail was made by the mertailor about a couple of years ago. I'll have a bunch more pics from my event this weekend where you'll be able to see my tail and myself better! I lived in Austin for a couple of years as well. :)

Mermaid Allie: The year-round warm weather definitely helps facilitate working as a mer!

Having been born in Northern CA, I do miss having distinct seasons though. I find it silly that I'm still wearing shorts in Nov... :thinks:
Thank you for the compliment! I'm excited to see how it really looks/photographs in the sun!

Check out the Cali pod page too (both Mernetwork and Facebook)! The So Cal group just had a SCUBA/Snorkel day in Laguna yesterday! I am not far in Glendale. :)

Sirenade, could you put up a link to the facebook page for me, please? I also have to admit I don't know how to join a pod on mernetwork, lol

Welcome! I'm in Costa Mesa! ^_^ You might also be interested in attending Anime Los Angeles in January! I will be there along with many of my friends that I've some how pulled into mermaiding. :-)

Feel free to contact me on my page! ^_^ Also, how the heck are you wearing shorts?! o.o;; It's so cold! >< I've lived here all my life and November-April is no swimming weather and long pants! Hahaha I'm such a wimp.

Have fun at your event! :-D

Welcome to the forum.

Also, having moved from LA to Silicon Valley and then thankfully back these past couple of years, I'm not sure how you can enjoy those seasons! It seemed like outside of spring (which I will admit was very nice and mild) it went from hot and icky to rainy and cold, lol.

Thank you again for all of the warm welcomes!

Malinghi: Thank you for the link!

Kailani: I definitely like to hit a lot of conventions, so I will check out Anime Los Angeles. Thanks!

Anahita: Well, I'm more of a 'darker' Mer, so I do enjoy the rain, fog, cold water etc. :)

Welcome! I'm afraid I am on the other side of the country (East Coast, Massachusetts), though my brother lives in the LA area, so it has been long pants weather for me for a couple months now! (Though my husband still wears his shorts some days! :p )

Echinacea: Massachusetts is one of my future planned trips, Salem specifically. :) My father pretty much wears shorts year round and he lives in Northern NV.

Could anyone tell me how long it takes to get a post approved? Yesterday, I had posted the info about the Atlantean Pool Party in the gathering/conventions section, (said something about needing moderator approval) but am now thinking I should have posted in the Cali pod section. Wanted to make sure people had a chance to check it all out since the event is in 4 days...

Not really sure where I should put this, but thought that maybe keeping it in my intro thread would be ok? (Admins feel free to correct if I'm wrong)
Pretty excited to share that I am the featured photo on The Advocate's website coverage of the convention I was a guest of last weekend! :D

I don't think anyone is paying attention to this thread anymore, lol, but just in case: to everyone who was nice enough to say hello to me when I first introduced myself, I wanted to let you all know that I started my own thread where I will be posting news about my company. Here is the link if you wanna follow along... :)

Nothing like that so far- as far as I know in SoCal. Probably the closest thing in CA in general would be the Dive Bar in Sacramento. I was actually in talks for a potential job in the very early stages of the bar, but that was when an entirely different set of people were organizing things.

I really wish we would have something like the Dive Bar in SoCal. It seems like either Long Beach, Santa Monica, LA, or San Diego/La Jolla would already be planning/building for something like that.

Imogen Finnly

It would be nice. I would love to see something like that so close to my house.

Yes a proper Dive Bar here in SoCal would be amazing!!

I would spend my check dry for that!

I totally agree Anahita! It seems like such a strange oversight for SoCal. Not only with all the amazing ocean culture, but with all of the entertainment possibilities available here that many places will never have

Anahita
01-23-2014, 11:31 PM
Exactly!

Ah, that I don't have a few million dollars to just throw at renovating some old building for that!. Lol

I was looking at bars from the 40s-60s yesterday and fantasizing exactly that.
