I've decided to make my first tail using some fabric I bought to make leggings but never got around to. It's a little more flashy then I want, but I figured I'd better use what I had and wasn't attached to for my prototype. I'm going to buy some grey sheer fabric or swimsuit marital for the side fins. I'm not completely sure how I want to do the tail yet. I saw a beautiful tail with long trails I'd love to replicate, but I'm working on if I want it to be the main part or the black to match the side fins.

I colored the top before I found the fabric in my stash, so the colors are off. It's close to what I want to make, though with more 'seaweed' layers to the bottom of the tankini.
I'm trying to see if I can by a monofin locally so I don't have to wait. But the dive shops by me don't list diving fins online, just tanks and gear for the boat

cool, I love the tankini idea!
As for a monofin, try calling the biggest dive shops first. In my experience most dive shops don't even know what a monofin is, as they tend to center around SCUBA and in general people don't use mono fins for SCUBA. Our biggest dive shop carries, like, one, but they are just not in big demand. Free diving is not nearly as popular as SCUBA. You're probably best off just going ahead and ordering online unless you have a BIG dive shop near you. The little ones tend to do the wide eyed "what the hell is that and why would anyone want to use it?" Look when they see my monofin.
gawd I hate typing on this iPad. Excuse ant typos

I love this idea! It's so cool how the tail dissapears into the top- I love it! Super cute. You took the iconic seashells and made them modest and fashionable ;)
And, oh my god Seavanna, I hate touchscreens. Keyboards are the only way to get rid of those 'ant typos'. :P

One of my local dive shops has worked with a few mermaids in the past and is trying to follow up and htem to figure out where he can get one. I was going to just order on online, but he's trying so hard to be helpful I'd rather wait and hopefully support his business. I was surprised because the rest of the dive shops was confused as you said.

Thank you. :) I really wanted to make a tail that was a one piece, but a one piece with no straps was not going to stay up on me! So a hour of designs latter I decided on this. Though after the leopard shark comment I have to work n some sharks teeth. *plots*

I will!
I just got my sheer fabric for the fins and my e6000 glue. Sadly I've seem to hit a dead end with the dive shop I was trying to get my monofin from. So my tail now I have to figure where I want to buy my monofin from.

They were trying to find out from local mers/photographers they've worked with where to get them. But they've seemed to have forgotten about me. I need it by next week so I'm ordering it from Amazon.

Yeah thats better I think. You could always give them a follow up call, maybe they already have it and forgot to let you know to pick it up.
