So, the annual Anime convention known as Anime Los Angeles is coming up soon!
Now, the ALA block for rooms at the LAX Marriott have been filled, but there are other rooms still available. I recommend going with Kayak.com (Lowest price I could find) if you do wish to get a room.
They have a wonderful pool deck with a nice (though, chlorinated) pool. It's heated enough to keep you comfy. Hahah and just is lovely to swim in shape wise. The shallow end is large for mer-lounging and wading, then has a nice middle stripe that is a nice standing or swimming depth, then you get to the deep end and it's about eight or nine feet deep and is small, but not too small.
Here are some pictures from previous years:

Sorry, but I don't have any full overhead views of it! You can see the deep area in the back of a few photos. >< I did my best.

This sounds awesome and I wish I could go. Alas, I am on the other side of the continent and have no way to get there...

Maybe one year when I'm visiting Cali (I have tons of relatives in Cali) I'll be able to go. :>

I swam in a tail in 2011 in that pool and it hurt my eyes soooo much! I hope it has been better than that one night. I remember just showing up and hopping into the pool without a badge. Is if possible to still do that?

The only large sci-fi/fantasy convention I've ever been to was Dragoncon 2011 in Atlanta. I found that they didn't really enforce the badges during the day on Friday, but after that they did.
Also, having a pool meetup at Anime LA would be pretty cool. Especially if it were possible to get there without a badge.

Alas, I cannot go this year, again. Ugh saving money means sacrifices but it will be well worth it to finally see my tail vision come to life. Whoever goes should post plenty of picks!

I may have met you, then. I was the Ariel in 2011. Haha
The chlorine is still pretty bad, but I'm going to talk to the hotel about it. I'll be doing a thesis on pool quality and whatnot to send to them and other pools.
As for a badge, last year the pool deck became a badge only area due to fire hazards. (Too many people in one area.)
Though! There [I][b]miiiiiight[I][b] be a way to get on the pool deck without a badge. They don't usually check any one in the pool. You just didn't hear it from me.
I do, however, strongly suggest buying a badge to support the convention. I'm friends with the guy who started it and I know hiw tough it is to deal with the few people who sneak in.
:-) Message me if you would like!

for cons badges will get you in panels, autogrpah signing, and the dealer's room. other then that you dont need a badge so you can still host meets as long as its not in a panel or the dealer's room

Not always true. I've been to a very small con like that, but at ALA, you cannot enter the lowest floor (it has all the ballrooms) without a badge. You, also, cannot enter the pool deck (an enclosed area within the hotel) without a badge. Trust me. I've been attending this con since January 2008 and have seen its changes. Last year that was a big change. They had wanted to keep it open, but too many people hung out there. They got into a lot of trouble with the fire marshal, and were told to find a way to limit the number of people there. That was their solution.
Also, if you've ever been to Anime Expo, you can't even get into the convention hall without a badge now.

If there is a meet-up can you plan to have it sometime on the weekend, as I will be out of town on the 10th. If there's enough people for a meet, then I'd love to go!

This will be great! Also, if I can, I will have a large bowl of swedish fish labeled "Mermaid Treats". If any one wants to bring some to add, feel free to do so!
