Shark Teeth!

I just bought a bag of over 250 shark teeth! I'm so excited! I'll be posting pics soon, if anyone wants some ill be doing 10 (small) for $1 and 5 (med) for $1 and I have a few larger that will be .50 each. And it will be $1 shipping unless you buy over 50!

Not to rain on your parade but do you know the source of them? I have a shark tooth necklace that I was given as a gift and I'm a little bit uneasy about it because I don't know if it is supporting the shark industry or if it was a found object.

I understand your concern, Daemon. I wear a large Great White tooth around my neck everyday- but I know exactly where it came from! (its a long story, haha!) Its a shame because a lot of shark industries are really regulated, but unfortunately there are some in the tropics which aren't and the numbers of sharks caught that are indangered/undersize are astonishing.

I don't know the source it was from someone's sea collection and they had gotten them from many different places.

I'm honestly not too worried about it seeing as a single shark can lose over 30,000 teeth in its lifetime it it much more lucritive to sell teeth that have been found at say, an aquarium, then harvesting them from a dead shark.

Yeah that's why shark teeth don't bother me. They're like what Old Granny Toothless wishes she could be. No dentures necessary! (Strangely enough I have nightmares sometimes where my teeth fall out... I guess I need to dream I'm a shark!). Btw Kae, I would be interested in buying some. How big are the larger ones? I'd probably buy mixed sizes. PM me and tell me where to send the moola!

I"ll put up pics ASAP, most of them are smaller, there are a couple that are about an inch.

Also sharks take 3 to 5 minutes to regrow a tooth that it has lost! How awesome would that be?

LOL- I have nightmares too where my teeth fall out!! haha! Its horrible to dream about >.<

unfortunately if theres no info on where they came from I would pass….they might come from an environmentally and conservational source but they could just as easily be a by product of the fin trade :( I had a head band made for me by a friend but they used real starfish on it and I can't wear it now as i feel like i would be saying its okay to take things from the ocean …pity they weren't fake as the head band was so pretty :/

I generally understand people who kill sharks for their fins usually just want the fins (being the most profitable part) so wouldn't waste time pulling teeth or perhaps even keeping the carcass as it takes up space where more fins could be carried

From what I see, finners just throw the shark overboard afterwards.

And I've never heard of shark-teeth being a "dirty" trade so to speak, since they're found in abundance in many areas. There's more shark teeth out there than people who want shark teeth, I'm sure. That's probably why they're so cheap. (I've bought them by weight before, and it was maybe $30 for a pound of them?)

Also, there's something to be said about a lot of the ones sold being fossilized teeth as well.

Edit: I'm also glad to know I'm not the only one who has dreams of my teeth falling out!
