I noticed there wasn't really a thread geared towards lycra tails specifically, but here she is!

Feel free to share tips, trick, designs and pictures of your already existent fabric or lycra tails! How did you make your tails, what materials dis you use, and how do they feel in the water?!

My tail is a magictail which is 20% Lycra and 80% Polyester. I'm in love with the color and the printed scales.

I can't go to the pool without it anymore :p

Well, for you, depending on your size (S or M) it would be either 119,90 euros or 129,90 euros + shipping.

Aaaaaaand you get a bikini matching with the color of your tail!

Mine is size M so I paid a total of 139,90 euros for my tail and I got it in less than a week.

For a starter tail, i think it's quite a bargain because the quality is really really good!

I have a size M with a large fluke, and I paid around 145€ with shipping.
That said, while they're gorgeous looking, affordable tails, no they don't swim fast.

I found swimming in them rather hard, because the "monofin" is made out of plastic and cracks easily, so I always have to concentrate on swimming lightly and not too fast.
It's a whole lot easier to swim without it, and I'm faster without it too lol.

But it's a lovely tail, and if I want to swim fast I just take my own tails with a real monofin :p

Im a small so mine will be pretty cheap, i think they look really nice, a little disappointed about the cracking plastic thing though since i like swimming pretty fast, what monofin do you use with it? I would like to have a small with a rather large fin , but not too big, i think it would look pretty. Do they come in striped colors? Like black and white? Like the bikini top im wearing here? As you can see the tail doesnt match, but i do have a top im working on that has scales matching the tail

The tail i made doesnt have a monofin but it swims nicely and the inside of the fins are made with leather, so they feel nice and 'fleshy' in the water

but its floppy lol

I made it to mimic the tails on POTC on stranger tides, with a different color scheme, and the top I'm making too.

Feel free to show me your tails, id love to see them :)

I fully disagree with you. I'm a man, i swim pretty fast and nothing cracked at all. I got their monofin with the newest material and everything is good so far. I really take good care of my tail and i'm very cautious when i swim. Since more than 3 months, i swim twice a week for two hours and i got no problem at all.
Kirsten promised me that it was much stronger that the previous line of monofins (like the one you got which cracked..).

@TheChimera : Do what you want to do but i think you should purchase their purple magictail :)

Good to hear you're happy with your tail.

However, I only answered Chimera's question whether the Magictail swims fast, and compared to other tails
(or any normal monofin), they don't.
This is because the Magictail fin is made from polypropylene, aka plastic.
There are many threads about this on the forum (and other forums as well);
it has been speculated that someone at the manufacture maybe confused polypropylene with polycarbonate, aka lexan, which is a whole different story for a monofin.

So yes, if you have ever swum in a decent monofin (Finis, Oceanika, Leaderfins, you name it), Magictail is slow.
Don't let that hinder your enjoyment of the tail; speed isn't important for everyone.

I happened to be bothered by it, thus I made my own tails and put real monofins in them (Rapid, Competitor).
I couldn't replace the Magictail one sadly, because I'd have to either custom make one in that shape, or cut up a good monofin into oblivion to fit, and I don't feel that's worth it when I have my own tails.

I remember these threads.
Fair enough. And you're right, whether i swim hard or slow, i enjoy my tail and that's the most important thing. :)

Polypropylene is what the hydra is made of no?

@Mermaid Melanie: They look amazing! They look digitally printed, are they? The green looks like a magictail

@Caltuna: Id like to swim pretty fast if the tail would allow it, but then again for a starter tail its not all that important unless you're like me, and want something that will last you awhile and still look great , what is the competitor monofin like?

@merman Arion: I just hope the magictail doesn't have drag, but a question that has been bothering me a bit about magictail is... What is the monofin like, or the fin or whatever, especially the foot part, is it comfortable, does it fit well, does it tend to slip off your feet or is it secure? I just really like to know what Im dealing with before buying a product, especially when it getting shipped halfway across the world from a country I've never been to. Could you perhaps take a few snapshots of what the inside of your tail looks like, especially aforementioned foot-part.

Any tail suggestions from anyone is most welcome

Although i do love making my own tails, its just so much more personal

http://mernetwork.com/index/attachment.php?attachmentid=37656&stc=1 I have made 2 of these mermaid tails so far for clients. This was the first one, for a Dark/Gothic Mermaid photoshoot, and the second one (pictured in my photo album) was for a Sunset Mermaid photoshoot. My tails are made from spandex fabrics, and I hand cut each scale individually, and there is a hidden zipper in the center back of the tail, so you can walk around without removing the tail. They fit with the fin fun monofin. I just ordered myself a monofin, and I am going to start work on a tail for myself! Finally!! I am so excited!!
