View Full Version : (Sold!) Selling Merberry Tail

I may be selling my Merberry tail since it does not fit (way too tight) and I haven't heard anything from Amanda/Merberry in months. I cannot use it since it is too small. I tried swimming in it once and couldn't stand being in it more than 10 minutes as it was crushing my knees/ankles and constricting my legs. It was also extremely tight on my feet so I couldn't use the straps. I double checked the measurements of my tail and compared them to what I gave her. It was 2 inches too small all around, so factor that into the below measurements (If I end up selling this I will remeasure the tail again so that I can give you accurate measurements). Here are the measurements I gave her:
Waist (where tail will sit): 30.25
Hips: 34.75
Knees: 20.25
Ankles: 13.75
Waist to floor: 39.5
Waist to ankles: 37
Waist to hip: 4.75
Waist to knees: 20.75
Shoe size: W 10 (fin was way smaller than this; cut off circulation)
I'm not sure if this will fit anyone, maybe a child? But it may ride up a little high. If you want to buy it for a child (or you are one; I know there are a few younger mers on here!) and they (you) are smaller than these measurements you could probably get it tailored to be smaller. Please let me know if anyone would be interesting in buying, thanks. :) Oh, and there is a small patch of scales that tore off after the one use, so be VERY careful in this tail!

Such a shame... It's a pretty tail and you would have been AMAZING in it. I'm really sad for you. :(
I hope it gets a good home. Good luck selling it, Leeloo.

Yea I am so sad that it doesn't fit me. I was thinking about selling it for $400 OBO.

Oh wow thats actually just bigger than my measurements! I don't think I would be able to afford it though! maybe I can convince my mom to let me buy it as a Christmas present. I'll have to see.

Ok let me know. Keep in mind it is $400 or best offer, so I may end up selling it for less. I do want to get a fair price though.

Out of curiosity what type of monofin an what size is it in the fluke?
MerEmma
11-20-2013, 09:08 AM
Says above it's a women's ten, "W 10 (fin was way smaller than this; cut off circulation)." So maybe she doesn't know what fin? I believe MerBerry uses a Wave or a Rapid typically and sounds like a Wave if it doesn't fit her.

Heya, I would suggest you measuring how big the actual tail is to give people a better idea of what sizes it is since it's obviously not made for the measurements you sent. :( Just measure it across while it's laid out flat & that should be enough for people to know.
leeloo
11-20-2013, 10:37 PM
Ok, I remeasured it, and it turns out the differences were even bigger than I thought. This is in inches:
waist: 25
hips: 26
knees: 16
ankles: 11.75
As far as the type of fin, I'm not sure, I know it can't be a rapid because I own one of those and it is stiffer than what I have in the tail. The straps are also non-adjustable. I've also attached a picture of the area where some of the scales came off. It's on the back of the tail by the ankles.

It's actually a really decent looking tail but 26 inch hips? Jesus that's not going to fit anyone. xD
I'd love to buy it for people for renting or putting their child in a tail for parties and stuff
but I don't have an extra 400 laying around.
I'd give you 300 on the spot if I had it right now. Doh! >.<
I'll wait for a little while and see what happens but if its still collecting dust after the holiday season
and no one takes it Ill take it off your hands for ya.

Drucilla I already posted the straps are not adjustable, but as I mentioned they definitely are not made to fit a women's size 10. I don't know what size they are meant for but it was waaaaaay too tight. RayeBlond, that sounds like a good tail use idea! If no one else is interested I'd consider selling it to you for $300. I'm considering trying to sell it on e-bay as well.

I am actually that tiny...It would work for me, but yes...the whole money issue. If it doesn't go for $400, I will see if I can scrape something together. I have a custom tail in progress, but it's being done as a favor to me...and probably wont be done by the spring like I would like.
My hips with pants are 30"...so I am not sure if this would work or not...is it stretchy at all?
MerEmma
11-27-2013, 03:00 PM
30" hips seem way too big for that--I don't think the neo/latex would stretch four whole inches. I think the general stretchiness of latex and neoprene is a lot less than silicone, maybe an inch or two.
mijomuffins
11-27-2013, 03:17 PM
With jeans on it is a 30"...I will assume 28" normally. I can measure myself later.
I have only dealt with fabric tails thus far, so I have no idea how latex/neoprene works. :(

Hi Leeloo I would like to take it depending on the postage cost to Western Australia postcode (zip code) 6280 :D
leeloo
12-04-2013, 05:17 AM
I tried to look up the price on the United States Postal Service website but it says I need 5 digits for the postal code which is weird, since I already selected the shipping destination as Australia.

Yes it does stretch. The hip measurements I gave her were nearly 35 inches, and when I remeasured the tail I got 26 inches. I was able to fit into the tail but it was very tight, although the parts that felt the tightest were the knees/ankles, however these are also bonier body parts so I'm sure thats why it hurt more. If your measurements are only an inch or two smaller I think it would be ok, anything much more than that may stretch it out too much. I'm sure you could still wear it but it might deteriorate faster (might be why I had some scales come off already).

I would definitely like to take it off your hands in the New Year for $500 including postage :)

Fifi Tigg, I will look up the cost for shipping and see if thats doable. I think it will be though. :)

I'm sorry people are still buying and/or dealing with tails advertised as "latex" but actually made with bathtub caulking, window sealant and/or other unknown substances. I have had several people email me recently wondering if it's normal for "Latex" tails to have chunks that just come off or 'strips that peel off' or for them to smell horrible even after a year or.... in general, they tell me their tails just fell apart. These were tails mostly from FishButts, MerBerry and Mertailor (old Alex tails)
I'm trying to clear the air on tails made with real latex (and I believe I'm the only one making tails with real latex currently) and offering them for sale.
Anyway, I'd love to make you this tail design in real latex and neoprene so it will actually last and fit ! Or anyone else, reading, I'm open to taking one latex tail order right now, I only take one at a time and the average price is $700, you can see more pictures on my facebook.com/MermaidsofHawaii or just email me at mermaidsofhawaii@gmail.com and I can send you pics and we can talk about your design, etc.
People need to stop buying these Alex tails unless they only plan to use them for dry events, its not cool to have chunks of this stuff falling off into natural bodies of water.
Thanks

Mermaid Citrine are you saying this tail will fall apart and pollute the water? Is it safe for teens and adults to wear?
leeloo
12-26-2013, 11:21 PM
Fifi as far as I know they are safe to wear, unless perhaps you have a latex allergy. How long this tail will hold up for though, I cannot say. My Mertailor tail has held up fine except for the paint, and the neoprene (or possibly neoprin) has stretched and isn't as tight, especially around the waist. You may have similar issues with the Merberry tail, but I don't know. The latex is very thin though, so you'll have to be very careful. As I already stated, some scales have already peeled off. Let me know if you are still interested in the tail.

I those are almost my exact measurements for a tail. If you don't sale it by the time i start school, I'd be interested since
my other tail was ruined by movers.

Hi Leeloo, this tail would be used for teens and children to wear in the ocean I'm afraid it might not hold up to the rough conditions so I may have to pass at this time but thank you and I hope I have not inconvenienced you :)

I'm so sorry everyone that I have been away, yes, I still have it, please let me know whoever is still interested! Thank you! As for price I'm trying to get my asking price, if not I may try eBay. If that fails I would consider dropping it lower.

leeloo
02-21-2014, 02:53 AM
Kishiko I may be able to do a payment plan if I don't sell it on ebay, but I'll need to look into it and see if there is a safe way to go about doing that, maybe setting up payments through Paypal or something. That is if you are still interested and you don't think it will be too small. It does stretch, but I'm not sure how much you could safely stretch it without wearing it out too much or it being uncomfortable. If your measurements are close to mine (which I posted in the first thread), it will probably be too small, because it was way too tight on me.
Kishiko

I'll have to double check my measurements... And I'm not even sure I could afford or justify buying it, it's just such and absolutely gorgeous tail!

Did you sell it at the end?
leeloo
08-07-2016, 06:18 PM
Hi Claudia, yes I did sell it but I may be selling another tail, the one in my profile picture. The material has stretched out though so I'm not sure of the size anymore, I will try to measure it sometime soon if you are interested. A tailor can take in the size though if needed for pretty cheap, that's what I had done when I first got it and it was too big. It's a neoprene/latex tail, although some people have said the tail maker (Mertailor) was actually using neoprin at the time so I'm not completely sure of the material. Thanks!

leeloo
08-29-2016, 08:57 PM
I'm so sorry for the delay, life has been crazy! Took measurements of the tail in my profile picture. These measurements are simply measured straight across the tail laying flat, so the actual measurements would be about double:
Waist: 10.5 inches across
Hip: 15 inches across
Knees: 9.5 inches
Ankles: 6 inches
Length: approximately 38.5 inches from ankle to top of front waist, add about another 0.5 inches for back
Some of the paint has rubbed off on this tail and I have attempted to fix it in the past but small bits still flake off. I may not have properly heat set the paint but I can through in the paint I have with the sale. I will try to post a separate thread for this tail as well.
