View Full Version : What to do in winter?

Aloha,
Hey everyone so it's obviously winter lol and even though it doesn't get that cold in Florida i can't swim because
1) We don't have a heated pool
2) My Parents won't let me.

WHAT DO I DO?!?!?!:doh:

Any tips from my fellow mer-pod would help:)

Well if your parents won't let you swim, there's not much you CAN do... Is there a particular reason your parents won't let you swim? Problem #1 is easily overcome by using a hotel pool or joining a gym. Maybe try to convince mom and dad to let you do that?

Well our whole area doesn't let people use things like that and we just gave up our YMCA passes so theres not much i can do.

If your pools won't allow tails and fins, you can still swim without.
It's great training for your dolphin kick, and much better than not swimming at all.

hey yea if you were able to swim, I'd say do like i did and invest in a 2-3mm wetsuit so its not so much of a "shiver" jumping into the 55*-70*f water we have this dry season... could also do that anyways and go to the springs or beaches for practicing. My pool isn't heated either but i get past it after a couple minutes of body heat warming the water that does get in the suit. i suppose those with a neoprene or silicone tail can get a similar effect? IDK... at least we don't have the 30s, 40s and 50s that the northern pods are dealing with most of the year.

I am in San Diego, and surfers are still in the water everyday. But as for swimming, my bf joined the YMCA and swims the lap pool. Perhaps if presented as a healthy choice, you could get your parents to allow you to join a place with an indoor pool and go swimming?

Yeah... Well said. It's literally frozen up here! I broke my Ice Skates out on a pond last week. Fun,...but not Mermaiding.
