Hi there everyone! I've been working on getting my shop up and running, so I've been making a ton of Mermaid things! I upload ALL of my pics of my work to Deviantart (see my signature for links), but I figured I'd share some of my favorite pics here as well :) I do custom work and commissions as well as whatever I think up. I prefer custom work though!

A Pair of Necklaces for Echinacea (a kind-of commission). Photos can't do these beads justice - she sent me a whole box of handmade Czech glass beads to work with!

I'll post more pics as I make more things - I actually have a few mer-things to take pics of today as soon as the sun comes out! I've been waiting for the snow to not be so stupid so I can actually take some pics outside (lighting inside is horrible, inside pics are only halfway decent if I filter the heck out of them).

There's a lot more pics on my Deviantart if you'd like, and I didn't post here all the mer-accessories here, there's more on DA (I make a lot of things! Too many pics LOL).

I also try to keep making unisex mer things! here just isn't enough merman accessories out there, LOL!

Looooove it~ After the holidays, I'll definitely be asking for some jewelry... Do you do bracelets by any chance? :D

Haha, I'll post the link here and in my siggie as soon as I can get my first item listed! I am so blasted newbish at this selling online thing...

Thank you all so much! <3 *blushes*

And yes, I do make bracelets! I don't have any made right now because I usually ask for a custom measurement - everyone is different about where they like their bracelets to sit and how tight :P

cool creations, have you ever considered making merman wrist cuffs?

Miyu
12-26-2013, 09:51 AM
Hi MermanZen! I have been considering some sort of wrist decoration for mer-dudes, I'm still thinking on the design - I'm more used to designing for women, but I am trying to make some attractive merman accessories as well :) What kind of wrist cuffs did you have in mind?

I'm currently not working with the regular netting - I still haven't gotten a chance to buy some. Maybe I'll take a look at some online today.

As a fellow merman I think a cool looking wrist cuff would be very nice! I like what you got going on!

I have a few more merman/unisex designs in the works, coming soon :) I'm working on getting a tail made first, but brainstorming on accessories as I'm working :D

What kind of things would you mermen like to see in a wrist cuff? I'm hesitant to ask my mer-man/mer-wrangler, because his automatic response is always "Gauntlets. Leather gauntlets." :P

Oh gosh thank you guys so much! :$ I really love making jewelry... I've been doing it since I could cut apart magazines :P

I love that I don't need any machines to make simple jewelry... I can take it with me and it's fairly easy. I love to sew, but my current machine is a baby one-stitch "mostly for repairs and hemming" machine...

I do hope to get into Precious Metal Clay soon, I have some really nice mermaid pendants I'd like to make in silver and gold (and brass if I can find it!)

I've worked with pmc and it is quite the undertaking! And it gets expensive fast! The results are great, but your wallet will get skinny FAST!

Miyu
01-17-2014, 09:31 PM
Haha yeah, that's why I haven't gotten into it yet :P When I get around to getting some, I'll be making molds so my pieces come out the same every time (and also will helpfully reduce clay waste). I also plan on trying to make quite a few at once, so I can make the most of those bitty scraps before they dry up :P

In particular, there is one mermaid pendant I *must* have - the one from Doctor Who - and I am just having the hardest time finding ANYTHING similar online. Especially since I am allergic to nickel >.<

Ok, I made another sale, which means I have the option to buy a few more craft supplies. I want to know if you folks would be interested in any of the following:

Shark's teeth necklaces (what style do you prefer?)
replica pirate coin necklaces
replica POTC coin necklaces
pirate coin WITH shark teeth necklaces

Miyu

Oh! I forgot to mention, I will also be making some shark tooth earrings, as well as some mer-man accessories such as cuffs :)

Doesn't PMC need a kiln?

I remember my cousin talking about getting some gold PMC to recreate an antique piece of jewelry she had, but she said it wasn't worth it, since she'd have to get a kiln, and she thought with all her dogs and her step-daughter it might be too "much" (which I gather was her way of saying it's too much a hazard)

Miyu
01-22-2014, 06:25 AM
I looked it up today and I was thinking of Art Clay - about the same thing, except art clay is made with all recycled materials and can be fired with a torch or a gas stove :) Also a bit cheaper I think...

Anahita
01-22-2014, 07:07 AM
Ah yes, Art Clay already sounds like a better option!

Hey everyone! I found the absolute COOLEST stones for making H2O-inspired "moon pool stone" necklaces! They are not *exactly* like the stones, but very close, and so beautiful! H2O aside, I still think they would make wonderful mer-pendants.

They are also NOT GLASS, or leaded glass (crystal), they are Aqua Aura Quartz! And the neat thing - they aren't beads! No holes placed where I don't want them!

17891

I plan on either wire-wrapping these or, if you'd prefer something closer to the show, I can have my mertender cut a groove or two in the top and I can do some wrapping with string and such. I'm not a fan of drilled crystals, though.

So, what's the word? If I bought some of these stones, would anyone want a necklace? The stones are fairly pricey no matter where I look (it's quartz infused with gold particles, and popular in New Age circles), so I want to know if it's worth it for me to buy some, since it is only cost-effective if I buy multiples - singles are just too dang expensive for me to justify.

JaceAquarius

Those look amazing!! I would definitely be interested in a H20 type necklace. Who says there were only 3 moonstone necklaces, we only know about 3. Perhaps you find (make) more of different designs ;) ! Congrats it looks like your previous one already sold. Love your work and looking forward to more.

PS I love how you have the crystal attached in the H20 necklace above. Just seems like it's hanging there :D

PSS that's a yes btw for me on the quartz crystal.

Miyu
01-30-2014, 07:38 PM
LOL! Thank you so much Jace! I actually haven't listed the H2O-inspired in my shop yet, I'm waiting until after the first of the month. Etsy takes out my fees on the first :p So it's still up for sale!

I generally post things here, my FB pages, and on my Deviantart before I list them... So if you follow me in any of those places, you'll get first shot at new items... Though I would recommend checking all of my pages, because sometimes I'll post something on one or two but not another...

In the H2O necklace I posted above, the "crystal" is actually a hand-blown glass bead with all these awesome swirly bubbles in it! :D

Yay! I'm glad you would like one of the aqua aura quartz! I really really want to make some, and the particular ones I've found sell in lots of three. Which is quite entertaining, when you consider that they'll be made into H2O necklaces LOL!

JaceAquarius
01-31-2014, 12:09 PM
Ah ha! I shall have to follow you on your other sites! And that's perfect being sold in three pieces! If I get one cut with a grove in the top so it hangs there do you know roughly how much you would charge for the necklace? (assuming enough people go for it for you to get the quartz). A piece of my mind is thinking.... 'get 3 so you can have your own set like in the show, and give them to 2 friends!' But I bet that's more expensive being 3 pieces of quarts. Still the idea is amusing. :D

Miyu
02-01-2014, 01:07 AM
Hmm, well, The quartz is the only thing I really need to make these, I have everything else (other than nicer wire if wire is wanted). I'll have to check with my mertender, who handles the power tools, and see just how fiddly it will be. I know he's cut quartz before, as I have some he's grooved for me. I think we may need a new blade/tip/whatever for it, though. Did you want it wrapped with cording, like the show, or wrapped with a bit of wire so it looks more "suspended"?

And haha, yes, I was thinking of offering them in sets of three (optional, of course) for just that reason :)

Are you going to make netted bags too? It will be handy for collecting seashells and pretty rocks from the ocean floor.

Miyu
02-02-2014, 02:09 PM
Oh yes, I have plans for netted bags and hopefully a mer-utility belt (I love using utility belts in my regular wear, so I'd love a mer one as well :P )

Ok, so I found the last 3 reasonably priced of these on the internet:

http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/img-thing?.out=jpg&size=l&tid=48944118

They were discontinued, but they are gorgeous (better colors in real life) and quite large. I figured some of you fine mer-folks might like a necklace made with one, and I wanted to know what the interest in these is, so I know if I'm going to order just one or all three...

Thank you! I quite love it, and have gotten the three pendants on hold so that I can make some necklaces for sale as well :D I'm working on mine right now.

Also, HOLY SEA COW YOU GUYS, I think I may have finally found a varnish/sealer for my polymer clay pendants that is actually waterproof... I shall be picking some up this week and testing it to let you fine folks know :yay: It may be a little while before I can test it in the pool, though.
