After reading the thread 'Ladies, your real bra size', I realized how many people (myself included) find it very difficult to find bras in the correct size. Being a cheapskate myself, and I don't like buying bras without being able to try them on, so I finagled a fix. I got these at Walmart for about $8.50 each.
first, find a bra in a larger sister size (where the cups are the correct size, but the band is too large). Go ahead and try it on, and make sure the cups fit ok. I need a 34DD, and the closest sister size I could find was 38C. So I needed to remove 4" from the band.

I measured off two inches on either side and folded them onto themselves on the 1" line. (If you're taking off more than two sizes, I'd recommend taking it in under the arm also, as taking off more than 2" on either side at the clips will interfere with the straps).

Yes, I used clothespins, I'm lazy :p Then I just stitched it up. I used the same thread as I did on my fabric tail because I knew it would be ok on a stretchy fabric.

Voila! A cheap bra that actually fits!
On a side note, I discovered that I don't hate underwires. This bra has one and it doesn't pinch me. I guess every bra I tried with wires before just didn't fit right.
