View Full Version : Something very upsetting about Facebook

Facebook has done it again. A picture and a link are better than a thousand words... Here goes :

The link : http://www.business2community.com/facebook/end-organic-reach-end-facebook-0718339#!qqhtD

This is a thread to talk about it so don't hesitate to express your thoughts, your frustrations, everything.

I'm pretty sure that we have some pretty pissed mermaids here who have an opinion.

I really didn't expect any better from Facebook. The thing that really pisses ME off is the autoplaying ads... I look at Facebook at WORK when I am not supposed to! Don't you dare start playing an ad when I am being sneaky. *pouts*

I do wish I saw more of the Pages I like in my feed, though, and I am sure this will be bad for businesses who really rely on Facebook. :(

Eh...so what happened to "it's free, and always will be"? :p

I find FB confusing tbh.
It's really hard to get the infos I need when looking up tailmakers or other businesses due to the nature of the site (posts, comments, timeline).
Getting in touch with the right people is also hard, because I have to click through hundreds of spam posts and messages first
(10 times "h" "he" "hello" from the same person, for example).

Now with this change, maybe it's more profitable for businesses to go back to having a regular website.
So much cleaner, and easier to navigate.

That said, while I don't own a business, so far FB didn't get me a single performing gig or model job,
thus apart from some free-time socializing, FB isn't the place to be if you're looking for that kind of thing.

Facebook is like a drug dealer. The first hit is free. They hook you, and eventually, when you become dependent, they know you'll pay for more. And what if it all went away tomorrow? You can't count on something that someone is giving away for free. Facebook is not - NOT - a basic human right. It's a business.

I find it so confusing. Honestly, I don't think this will work to make them anymore money and I do predict that in the future what they WILL change is letting everyone see our posts, and putting ads on our pages, unless we pay to subscribe. WHich is what many other websites do. And I certainly would have no problem paying a fee once a year to keep ads of my page but ensure everyone sees my stuff ;) I've seen it happen with other websites. We know no one pays for boosting their post, it doesnt get boosted to your fans either. They don't want freeloaders, but they can't ignore the traffic popular pages bring in. So I think if we weather this storm it'll change.

-Cue mass exodus from Facebook to Twitter-
Even though I have an account, I still think Facebook is extremely greedy.
I really do hate multi-million dollar corporations like them.

So frustrating! I couldn't believe how low our page's reach has gotten... it was at least vaguely comforting to know that proportionally we're getting a really good response considering the number of people who actually see any of our posts, but it is frustrating. But we have a Merlesque twitter, youtube, pinterest, tumblr, Google+ (much though I hate Google+!) so to be honest, if Facebook makes it that difficult to reach our fans we're just going to shift our efforts to different social media solutions to reach them instead! Which basically amounts to facebook shooting themselves in the foot.

Honestly I work just as hard on all the other social networking, and I've only ever booked 1 gig through twitter, and got one media callback through tumblr. In 4 years. But I get gigs through facebook weekly. I don't rely on facebook for gigs, it just happens that way. SO I'm not so sure about how focusing on anything else will help, until another social networking site gives facebook a run for their money. But I think if someone else DOES do that, it might bring out more positive change in fb

Honestly, If this is actually happening, I guess I won't make a fan page about my merman self once I get my dream tail from Raven. What would be the point if not many don't see the updates? Fuck that. Thank you Facebook... :(

People who want to see your stuff, will still go see it. Raven and Hannah never show up in my newsfeed despite my settings. Doesn't stop me from going to their pages ;)

I go to Merbella's and Finfolk's pages all the time and they never show in my feed. Raina's right--go for it! It can't HURT anything after all!

!!! ok, massive Facebook problem!

I usually log in once per day (evening) to check my messages, look up new posts/stuff, and respond to friend requests.
I always log in from the same site/PC/location.

Today Fb tells me "it appears you haven't logged from this device before...blabla...confirm your identity".
Wrong, but I try to go through it.
First, it's several retarded captcha; then, I have to go through half a dozen pages answering questions.

And then FB presents me loads of pics asking me which of my FB friends is featured in the pics.
Is this a bad joke?
I get 3 pics, each of which show a different person (in the first 2 it's a guy and in the third a female), and I can choose ONE name saying who that is?

Has Fb gone completely nuts? what the hell.

(I went through with this BS and then was told my answers weren't accurate enough.
Yea, wonder why with the above method.)

Anyone else has something like this?

Never had something like that. I only once had the problem that someone from florida had stolen my fb, or so they said, but I could easily take it bake and change my password.

But I do find fb getting annoying with all the advertisements that spams half my news line

no one has stolen mine, but they refuse to unlock it.

Wrote to them, filled in forms, answered the pages where I have to "identify" snapshots of my fb aquaintances.
I get most of them right until they show me 3 pics of a dude, but all the names I can choose for them are female, or vice versa.
And then it says I picked one wrong name.

I'm through with this BS.
Bye, Facebook, you're retarded beyond imagining.

I'm just miffed I can't tell all the people who wrote me messages (my whole email is full with notifications) that I can't get back to them.

My friend has the same problem with getting onto her account when she went out of the country. Every picture they showed her had several people in it, so she had no way of knowing which one it wanted either. It's an interesting idea, but terrible in execution. I hope you can get back in soon!

Oh dear Heaven, don't they know that people don't KNOW 95% of their Facebook friends? I have, like, 500 friends. Most of them I do NOT know!

Ye, this.
I don't have quite that many, I even recognized some people, but one wrong answer and they don't let you in.
Most snapshots are stuff from weird angles I've never seen, all the people are different, and if all 3 pics on one page show guys, how is it I can only pick female names below?

It's beyond stupid, I bet the software doesn't function properly.
And what exactly is it going to prove if someone somehow manages to pick the names the software wants?
It doesn't even present my secret question

It's just ouch.
While I'd still like my account back (if only to check on tailmakers and mers), I'm not sure it's worth the hassle if it happens again.

So I got back in at last, because I was suddenly offered an alternative to snapshots of 200+ people I mostly don't know in person

wonder how long it'll last, from what I've googled, the software will block for loads of reasons, and often multiple times so I'm not alone lol.

Something worth reading. It's about the actual problem on Facebook with business and fan pages :

Facebook, you are really a ton of bullshit... :(

Couldn't find the "collectors and merverts" thread (I think it was decided not to have one),
so not sure where to post this.

I've been added (or requested to add) by quite a few...er...questionable guys on FB.
I'm fine with people who I can classify so to speak
(mers, merfans, divers, diveshops, dive resorts, etcetc), but sometimes I'm baffled.

Can someone check out XXX and tell me what's that supposed to be please?
(name edited out)

I accepted his friend request a while back but he had a picture of a girl. Too much creepy stuff on his timelime, so he had to go.
