Kia Ora!
Selene from Wellington, New Zealand here :) Have been a part of the mer community for...yikes, just over 10 years now? So glad we have a pod to call our own.

G'day! Not quite as elegant as Kia Ora is it?!
Happyguava/Nerissa/Shelley here - I'll answer to any of the above! From Melbourne, Australia.
Our pod sounds so pretty and ocean-y :D

We do appear to be missing the "i" in Oceania making it a bit harder to pronounce :p I'm sure it will appear in time though. Taniwha also from Wellington, NZ here. Still fairly new to the mermaid thing though!

Hey, I started making a logo for the pod of Oceana. I'd love some feedback. And I'm really not sure how to color it. If anyone wants to color it or make changes, I can post the original .xcf file.

I am Aela, founder of the Lilypad Lagoon Mermaids in Melbourne, Australia (waves to Nerissa - also a member!)
Malinghi - the shark detail within the saltire seems to complex. Suggest replacing the shark scene with a simple shard of Coral, to represent our beautiful reefs? :)

*waves back* About time, lady!
I kinda like the shark, it's cute!

I can add more coral to the bottom of the image since Australia's coral reefs are definitely something that should be represented. I want something to be swimming in the central part of the shield. Can you guys recommend something else I could put there? Or if the problem is that its too complex, I can simplify the shark and draw it in profile.
Also, are there any colors you guys would recommend for the whole thing?

More Lilypad Lagoon over here :)
We're also medieval reenactors, so if you ask us about heraldry we probably will be a little too helpful :P
I think royal blue for the field and sky blue for the saltire would be nice, maybe with the shark silver. If you want to follow the rules of heraldry you might want to border the saltire between the blues with silver. I'd also lose everything else but the shark in the saltire and make the crest at the top a little more recognisable as coral. I love the sea dragons!

Hello!
MeriaMiel from Adelaide. Am I not the only person finding it strange that Oceania has the most beautiful seas and such a small mermaid pod?
I shall have to get my friends interested, everyone should be a mermaid. ^.^

The lack of quantity is made up for by the quality of the Mers.

Oh, and is it Oceana or Oceania?! Was it deliberate or a spelling mistake!
This mermaid is confuzzled!!! :P

Oceania, as in Australia, New Zealand, PNG, bits of Asia, all those islands.... Okay so I'm not a geographer, but you get the idea :P

I quite like the shark. And yes, there should be an "i" in Oceania.

Merry Meet Merfolk,
I'm Lunali (luna-lie) I'm from Sydney Australia and I'm brand new to all of this, although i have always been a mermaid at heart, and soon, after i get my very first tail, i will be a mermaid at fin also :D
I would love to meet fellow merfolk near me, I'm bubbly, down to sea level and love a good joke, i love to sing and collect pretty shells and make necklaces from them.
It is just shelltastic to have found this place.
Love from Lunali <3

Hello I'm Bellalucia. I usually go by Bella or belle but don't mind Lucia (pronounced Luchia ) either. I'm from Melbourne and I'm quite new to mer-life but have been a closet mermaid for most of my life. Like so many the little mermaid was my gateway mermaid. Being a redhead was actually accepted after ariel came on the scene.

I'm an hour away from Melbourne. The Great Ocean Road is where I live along :D Thank God we have a few Victorian mers! I don't feel so alone anymore! :) Come to Lorne or Aireys Inlet (where I live) for a day; we have really nice water here...not so much temperature wise at the moment though! :s

I LOVE Airey's Inlet so much. I've gone there for holidays the last couple of years, it's absolutely beautiful. Actually the whole GOR is, you lucky thing!! I really want to try and drag the girls out that way for some mermaiding in summer. :)

Hi!
I'm OceanRose from New Zealand.
It's nice to meet so many others, and read all the great info on here!
Just got a monofin for my birthday and took it for a swim the other day :) ... and now I'm looking into fabric and paint, to make my own tail.
My daughter is six years old, she's been in love with Mermaids for a long time, she got a Mermagica tail earlier in the year, and swims like a little fish at our local swimming pool, and currently, we are putting sequins on the end of her tail.
Now the weather is warming up, I can barely contain myself, I cannnn'ttttt waiiiiiiiit to get to the beach!
Love to all you beautiful mermaids!
Welcome Ilythia and OceanRose, it's great to have both of you in the community :)

The name Ocean Rose made me think of the song Ocean Gypsy by Blackmores Night... but probably a little more bubbly for a NZ-er. Having swam off Punukaki and near Cape Reinga (forget the beach name) last year I can definitely understand why you are looking for warmer weathers. Although a great place to be a Mer would be the Waikite Pools (http://www.hotpools.co.nz/) which has a good warm swimming pool for playing with the visiting children. And great onsite camping...

Hi roamingmer!
I've been to Cape Reinga, not swimming though - thank you for the recommendation of Waikite Pools, I've not heard of them, I'll definitely check it out.
My family and I go very often to a beach called Whangamata, and hope to visit some more beaches along the Coromandel soon :-)
