FINALLY my oven is completed, my foam latex has arrived to me safe and sound and NOT frozen, and I'm ready to start playing.

I have a much much bigger project this foam latex is going towards, but I need to be sure that I can use foam latex first, which is the first massive hurdle. As some of you may know, foam latex is an incredibly tempermental and difficult material to work with. But once it's done, it's incredibly realistic to the touch, last longer, and is really beautiful.

Silicone I'll save for later, since a large tail is in progress for the summer, and dear old emma will get bored after her aliens are finished in March.

So anyways!

I'm going to be focusing on two separate kinds of gills right now, one in a more sleek pattern, more hidden I suppose, the other a fantasy based gill line which I'm going to mess around with a bit.

Version 1-
16693

Version 2-
16694

Thank you google for doing the work for me.

It'll take a couple weeks to get everything completed, but sculpting should be done soon, as well as some more ideas for testing materials to get a shimmer translucency underneath the gills, so when they raise you'll see a little glimmer of color.

Once I get a couple prototypes, plans are to try selling them if anyone would want them. I will not be painting them, because matching skintone is really impossible, that'll be up to you with alcohol based paints, though I'd be happy to throw in adhesives with the prothestics themselves. ;)

oooOOoooh! Awesome!

Are you going to document the process?

Sure am! I'm contemplating a video of the foam latex process but I think there will be a lot of swearing haha.

But yes! Everything will be documented for sure. :)

Neat! Though the ones on the neck bug me because they look like they're backward.

Haha yeah they are upside down. It's not the concept, just and idea for general placement. I just got the image off of google.

Official designs will be soon. :)

Well, I forgot to take a picture of the gills sculpted. Only remembered that I needed to do that while I was pouring the mold.

But there's the mold? Haha. I'll hopefully have a prototype in foam latex at the end of the day! Tomorrow at the latest.

Never mind! Mold pulled off absolutely beautifully.

So there we go! Rib gills. Mold is baking in the oven for the next four hours. Tomorrow will be the first foam latex pull!
