Hello Everyone *waves*

My name is Namiko (Or Nami in short)

The name Namiko originates from Japan and means ‘Child of the waves’ which i though suited a mermaid lol the reason i chose this name for my mersona (heheh) was because when i researched the personal traits of the name and they reflected my personality, as im very bright, bubbly, energetic, and calm minded. The other characteristics of this name were sensitive and emotionally controlled, just like water <3

I’m a 21 year old women who loves Japanese culture and obviously mermaids :P
I live with my boyfriend of 4 years (Chris) and our beautiful 3 cats (Ally, Zuni and TigerLilly) <3 Im currently studying a cert III in Dental assisting and trying to start my mermaid company known as Namiko Studios.

I have loved mermaids every since i was really little, my nana made me my first "little mermaid" tail when i was 6 and she would tell me stories of mermaids and sailors who traveled the oceans seeking true love but that the ocean was rough and only those who shared in true lover survived, the others were claimed by the sea.

So i started my adventure on becoming a mermaid by investing my nanas sewing skills in creating more and more elaborate fabric tails until, i ordered a neoprene lined latex tail from Fish Butts. The tail i got lasted a while until i wore it out from all the free diving practice i did in it.

Currently im waiting on my tail from MerbellaStudios <3

So im here to meet other Australian mermaids and build friendships and learn more about the mer-community <3

So if your an Adelaide mermaid like me and you want someone to swim with at the local beach or pool, feel free to add me!
I swim 3 times a week at the Adelaide aquatic center where I practice free diving, so if anyone ever wants to join me im always free <3

I'm studying Japanese too. I'm guessing you know that 波子 is the Kanji for Namiko? And if you don't… now you do!

Awesome. Depends what I'm doing if I swim on a weekend, but I'll be sure to let you know. I'm guessing you work full time then?

What kind of tail do you have at the moment? ?

I'm a medical receptionist so my hours very because we have an after hours service as well <3 but i can usually work around it to go swimming :)

and with my tail my fish butts latex tail actually broke a few weeks ago so im jut swimming in my nemo wing monofin it's really big hahah so until my merbellas tail is finished and shipped that's all I have at the moment :)

what about you what tail do you have :)

Ilyena

Makes sense :).

Never heard of that monofin (had to google it >_<), looks similar to a competitor, in size too. Breaking a tail must suck :(, but the merbella should make up for it :D.

At the present it's only a couple of fabric tails with a rapid fin, though the neoprene one is almost finished ^_^.

Yeah I've tried on a competitor and there pretty much the same expect the price haha the nemo was $50 cheaper :)
and I knew my latex one was going to break eventually but I was hoping it would last till my merbella one came hahah oh well

but that's good at least you have some tails :) are you making the neoprene tail yourself? Is the stitching difficult ?

Seems like most things come down to price xp. Well hopefully it arrives sooner rather than later :).

3 fabric tails though ones gotten dodgy cause of wear and tear. Yes I'm making the neoprene one myself. Im machine stitching the body but have to hand stitch the fluke n fins. As long as the needle is lubed its not that hard...It's harder stitching though the pvc piping im using xp

Welcome :D
i'm down in melbourne heh heh so a little far away but no oceans to cross (damn)

may i ask where you tried on the competitor? ive been shopping for a monofin for a few years and im not comfortable paying the massive postage plus price unless ive tried it on first, so im probably going to make another one myself lol.

so now that we have a hearty amount of oceanic mers, we should start looking into a meet up of some sort, im not against travelling.

also i cant wait to see how your business goes, i would love to buy from an aussie mer, other than oceanika, there isnt much. and she still hasnt put up the big monofins heh heh.

Wow thank you all for all the warm welcomes <3

Mermaid Stormy thank you so much we should defiantly get together for a swim hehehe

Mermaid Bella one of my free diving friends owned a competitor monofin so i got to try it on and see the sizing difference :P i researched the different materials and sizes and brands before i committed to a purchase. this is the link to the shop that i bought mine from (http://www.freedivershop.com/fins-and-monofins/freediving/freediving-monofins/waterway-nemo-wing-monofin)

And i totally agree we should have a mini merfest down here lol since there are a few of us now :P we usually have one a year but last year we had to so (Mermaid Mizuko) usually sets them up but im happy to start arranging one once i get my merbella tail as i have just broken my FishButts one:(

And thank you so much :D i really want to start getting into performing, im not so much invested in the "educational" aspect like most mermaids(not that there’s anything wrong with this) i just prefer entertaining lol even when i free dived in Seaworlds SharkBay i was mermaiding down and blowing bubble kisses to the kids watching from the underwater view form lol they were so amazed that someone was taking the time to do flips and blow bubble rings next to sharks lol

So what type of tails do you have, obviously an oceanika fin hahah

no, i dont have an oceanika yet. dont get me wrong, ive been drooling over one for 2 years, but this gals feet are a 10 1/2 and they dont make them that big... YET!

if youre going to be doing performing you should chat to the mermaidens, they perform down here in melbourne.

ive been trying to organise a mermeet in the oceania pod but nobody seems interested. sad face. it would be nice as manifest has just closed its doors and there is a bit of a power vacuum going on. everyone wants to see who will host the next convention. dun dun duuuuuunnnnnn
