Looking for a DragonCon 2014 Room...anybody up to share? I can sleep on the floor...

So I forgot to get a room for DragonCon 2014. Not my brightest moment. Next thing I knew, BOOM, it was January and the rooms were GONE. Is anybody here going and do you need a roomie? I will gladly bring a sleeping bag and sleep on the floor! Please let me know if you know anybody looking for a roommate, as I really don't want to stay in an overflow hotel!

DragonCon is one of the biggest scifi/fantasy/gaming/comics/movies/anime conventions in America. Actually, probably in the world. It's like San Diego ComicCon, only it is considered "multi-genre." Not that people don't do multi-genre stuff at ComicCon, but DragonCon is officially all genres. Over 50,000 people attend every year. Basically it is up there with ComicCon for quintessential geek conventions. If you want to get a room at the hotels it is actually hosted in, you have to make reservations a year in advance.

That's a bummer about the room. I went to DragonCon once when I lived in Atlanta and it was great. I wish living in Atlanta gave me some kind of special insight that could help you out.

Have you checked Couchsurfing.com and AirBnB.com? Anyone who's willing to host a guest is probably already hosting someone, but its worth checking.

ADVICE NEEDED: Okay, I really want a roomshare for DragonCon, but I am worried about sending my money to people I don't know. Is there any way I can actually be somewhat safe about it? I just don't know what to do....

Paypal has the 45 day guarantee thing. Maybe require they send you something to ensure the room is yours? I don't know....hm.
