My New Monofin

Okay guys so I just got my new SpecialFins mono fin and I'm so excited to use it ! I ordered it through WeFreedive, a company based in Phuket and they custom make the foot pockets to your foot measurements. They also Kindly cut me a beautiful mermaid fluke shape ! so for now heres some pics of the fin when I unboxed it :D

I love the shape! It's perfect and actually a good idea for tailmakers looking for a nice mermaid shape.

Congratulations on your new monofin! I'm also very interested in the results of your test run! I'd like to order the SpecialFins Dolphin, too. I noticed you had them cut the fin for you! and reinforce the notch, good idea! I'll need to have it shipped to USA, and will inquire on shipping costs. It sort of bothered me to see some of the last "News" updates on Karmo's web site were back in 2011 (some photos), and his FaceBook page hasn't been updated. Just scary to me to think he might not be in business, but I guess I was wrong!!!

I hope you don't mind but I have a bunch of questions...
Did you like the stiffness? Would you go up a level?

I have very narrow feet, and long, too. US women's size 10-10½, narrow (or A or AA), which is men's 9-10 ,or XL on their chart. Not only are my feet narrow but the vamp (height from floor, at your arch to the bone on top of your foot) is fairly low, too. In one of your pictures, you are in red flip flops, and your feet look fairly narrow to me, as well.

Did you send them a foot tracing or did they send you a "Fit Kit"?

I'm thinking also to add the neoprene foot protection, might be a good idea. I have been reading all I can get a hold of... and it isn't much! :::sigh:::

The suggestion to get the socks is a good one, even if I don't need them later....

Did you get the foot socks?

Did you get the extra strengthened heel strap?

Oh my, I'm sorry to have so many questions. There's no dive shop near Boston, Massachusetts that carries any monofin to try. I would have to order a Finis Competitor from Amazon and figure it out the hard way, then if it doesn't fit, return it. I've heard that the Competitor foot pockets are not that comfortable, and need socks. Also it runs between soft and medium flexibility.

If you have time to take a video, before you put it in your silicone tail, I would love to see it in motion!

Hey, Im about to order my monofin, finally earned up enough as of today! But I keep bouncing between Leaderfins and this exact one you have lol. I emailed Leaderfins and they responded to me today that they can't cut the monofin shape like Specialfin did for you....Shouldnt be too hard to cut the shape out myself with all the tools we have around here tho.... Did you take that video? I would love to see it, maybe it'll help me decide!

Hey guys ! sorry I've been so busy recently i haven't had time to reply to folk ! MerMarla - They ask for specific measurements of your frets so it fits perfect - width length height etc - I have done a few trials in the fin now i will make the video soon ( again sorry life is on fast forward right now ) I would for sure recommend getting neoprene socks for the this fin as if you use it for a while you will get rubbing and blisters - socks make the whole difference ! SpecialFins - cut this shape for me and reinforced the notch - I think they did a great job - as for the stiffness i love it its flexible and moves beautifully in the water and has superb power behind it - i didnt go for the carbon kevlar because i thought it would be too stiff ( also the price Yikes lol ) but I'm very happy with my fin and will for sure post the video here asap ! :D x

aw thanks guys ! well actually i just broke my breath hold personal best yesterday ! I'm so happy finally got over the 2.30 mark now standing at 2mins 37 sec - i see that 3 mins on the horizon hehe ! anyhoo just wanted to post this video of us freediving the other day - i chose to wear my fin ( i wore it for 3 hours swimming in the ocean and man is it powerful ) but it was tiring lol anyhoo hope you enjoy ! :D
