Morticia mermaid is doing a fundraising event to create some silicone tails. For about $700 she's offering a dragonskin silicone tail! I'd get on this as there are only 46 days left!

Didn't she start a raffle last year? I don't remember ever hearing about a winner, and I know a few mers on here had entered and probably sent $....

You're welcome Morticia Mermaid. I figured you needed some support.
Yay! $700 is a great deal for a tail. It's a good thing you already collected all the other materials you need for these tails, so you can pass the savings on since you mostly only need silicone anyways :)
As a proud owner of several of Morticia's accessories, I can say that the other prizes are also very awesome! I am constantly amazed by her work, it's so beautiful <3
Morticia, I can't wait, I am so excited to see your tails and try them out! Your fluke designs are beautiful and all the awesome plans you have in store for these are just amazing.

Same here. feel a tad betrayed but that is the price you can pay (a $100 lesson for me this time) for blindly trusting someone on the internet. I would like to give her the benefit of the doubt and believe she bit off more than she could chew. At the end of the day it seems like she just took a good chunk of change from trusting people.

You gotta Google people aliases or etsy blog names etc. If you do you'll see complaints. When kanti and I were having it out several people sent me forum posts not about mermaiding with complaints etc. But it just seemed like they wanted to fuel drama. Still the lesson is there. You can see their customer history. Look up mine and you'll see me stuff falls apart haha hence not selling it.
Mortician did you make mermaid Victoria's tail?

Victoria made both her tails, I know because she has videos up on her YT of progress and how she did them. They're gorgeous though.
Morticia has told me that she's trying to reach Kanti for all of us...I really don't want to have made a mistake buying a raffle ticket, even if it's only $25. =\
Good luck with your fundraising, Morticia! :D

Emma is correct, Victoria made her tails. And they certainly are lovely pieces of work.
I heard from kanti a couple days ago (after nearly 2 months). I'm trying to get my own money back (roughly $400). I asked her if it would be possible to get the funds back and haven't heard back from her after that.

Though Morticia's Neoprene tails I've seen are also lovely :) And the seamlessness, OMG :D

There's only one Seamless one so far. Owner has lost enough weight I need to take it in. She's supposed to be sending it to me for taking in in the next few weeks.
Still. I am amazed at seamless Neoprene. :D
Is it the one I saw at the meetup? I think it was purple, but with my bad eyesight all I saw was black LOL

I've noticed Kanti has been working hard on many etsy orders. She recently updated her Facebook with photos of all of these masks. What a shame that she ins't going through with the raffle and hasn't even been updating her tutorial.

This was a custom order top. It was supposed to got with a steampunk mermaid tail. I got permission from the owner the have Miyu model it for me during a photo shoot last fall
17237
We decided on having laces up the one side to make sizing easier, and it added another steampunk touch to the back.

The left strap has a shell inspired hook and eye clasp

You know a lot of mers had fabric or neoprene tails at merfest and it all the pics and video you really can't tell the difference from most vs silicone. A lot of people commented on my pics asking! I think it goes to show the quality of tails like this keep rising. I wish more people would go for these tails.I see so many jump right to silicone and then there's a huge learning curb.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
I'm hoping to get myself into one of Morticia's neoprene tails as well :D I'd like to have at least one tail of every kind, for variety.
Only 30 days left! I would get in on this, I've seen the completed sculpt up close... It's AMAZING! Soon we'll get to see it in silicone, yay! These are going to be some gorgeous tails!

Thanks Miyu. If there was anyone looking at getting the tail level perk, I can say I will have made at least 2 tails before starting on the reward tail. I'm hoping I have enough silicone to be able to make 3. I want to make sure I have the process down before starting on reward tails. And as a perfectionist, there are only bound to be a few minor flaws to each tail.
This is true! Whoever claims it won't just be getting your first tail or even the second. You'll have worked out the kinks by the time you get started on the fundraiser tail.

I have a question. If I just wanted a neoprene tail skin, could you do that? My epic idea for a neoprene tail is to have it be red and silver. .....I would have to make a design.
Morticia Mermaid

I'm impressed with your neoprene tails. You're obviously a detail oriented artist, and you care about what you're doing. It makes me think your silicone tails are going to be just as impressive. Unfortunately, I can't take part in this fundraiser. I have no budget for anything this month. Perhaps next, but I see today is your final day.
Also, I think I'm going to by advice here on the forum and start my first tail from neoprene. Silicone can wait until I can afford it, for one thing, and I'm seeing some really nice neoprene ones out there.

Shipping of international goodies takes quite a while. It really is all depending on customs departments. Shipping time for the first item I ever shipped over seas took close to a month for it to arrive to them. So patience :) It's getting there.

So....Sorry I'm easily confused...Is Morticia Mermaid SELLING tails for $700 or is she trying to RAISE $700 for a tail?
Morticia Mermaid
03-16-2014, 03:33 PM
Hi Morganna. Both are correct actually. But the selling price is for a limited time. Once I have the first couple tails completed the price will be adjusted. $700 is the cost of materials remaining to be able to make at least 1 tail, as I have everything else I need.
Also want to state that I have had to start my fluke mold over as the other ended up having issues when I did the mold.

Hey Tieri :) I saw your message, still trying to get caught up on everything. I pretty much closed up the laptop while my guy was here (just got home from an 8 month deployment in Afghanistan T.T ) so I could spend time with him. But now that he's gone back to base, I'm getting depressed and plan on distracting myself with work.
I'll check out your design and let you know on pricing. The last couple orders I worked on have made me rethink some of my pricing and such. If I have any questions about your design, I'll make sure to ask in a private message :)

Mermaid Melu here! Just wanted to say that I am the one with the SEAMLESS tail! YES it is seamless. It fits me like a second skin. Sadly I have lost a lot of weight since it was made, so it will have to be greatly brought in! BUT It is quite possibly the BEST thing I have ever experienced. I mean seriously. There are NO seams. Its SUPER SUPER comfortable. Like an extension of my body. It is light enough that I can easily get around on land alone and the flow in the water is just <3
If any one has thought about going neoprene, but is like me and doesnt have the time nor the SPACE it takes to make a tail, give Morticia a message <3 shes really good with updates and working every step of the way.

How on earth do you make a neoprene tail seamless? I know that might be, for all practical purposes, propietary knowledge. But if you care, Morticia, to divulge that secret, I assure you I don't plan to make a tail for anyone but myself and would use the knowledge only for my own tail. :D

Heh. I would Surly but, it took me months of research and testing (and a few hundred in cash) to get it worked out. And even know I'm still refining it ^^' Plus it's a little quirk that will make my tails unique, ya know? Like how you can look at a silicone and almost always tell exactly who made it.
Melu's tail was the first full tail test. And it has held up AMAZINGLY. When she can get it sent back for me to take it in, I'm going to be altering how I do it a bit.

O.o Hadn't even noticed so... -wewt 1000!
For my personal tail? I went with the Hydra. And I LOVE it. I don't run into leg or foot cramps like I did with the oceanika. It's near crystal clear in the water. And I LOVE the your feet are "off" the blade, if that makes sense? Like, the blade starts at the tip of your toes, not half way through your foot. Ya know?
I'm working on making a sequin tail for it, it will probably be painted though until I can either afford the sequins, or find someone who has them and is willing to trade :)
PearlieMae
04-07-2014, 10:06 AM
Woohoo!!!
Your timing is impeccable, too...I was considering recutting the lexan on my home made monofin, but was wondering if I should have the feet off the fin - just like you described!
As thick and short as I am, I thought it would help elongate my look, but was wondering if there were any monofins (except for those weird blade types) that had the foot off the fin.
Thanks!
Aziara
04-07-2014, 10:22 AM
Just be sure your foot pockets are stiff, else you won't have much control over your fin. You could always have lexan under most of your feet, just don't start widening it until you get further down. Make sense?
PearlieMae
04-07-2014, 12:55 PM
That's what I'm doing, plus the lexan is doubled from my footplate down the center of the fluke. The modeling of the fluke and my heel fins should control any tendency for lateral movement. :D
