I have size 5 feet, and then the monofin is like a size 6.5.. I need to figure out how to get my feet to fit in that, be it stuffing something in there, or wearing lots of neoprene socks. I want to have a Competitor due to the fact that its going to be in the ocean, and I want that nice propulsion.

Leaderfins and Waterway both have comparable fins to the Competitor, and I think both come in smaller sizes than the Competitor does. Some are even cheaper, too. You could wear some neoprene socks, but you might have to stuff on two pairs, and it might not be all that comfortable.

I'm just really really not wanting to ship stuff into the country...

I'd do a couple of pairs of neoprene booties. They have the benefit of preventing blisters too. I would, however, stitch them together. Like, put one pair on, then put the other pair on over, and then stitch them together at the tops, and then do a running stitch along the toe to hold them together and keep the top pair from slipping off.

they dont make them any smaller. there's been confusion because at one point they did and then discontinued and I know several tail makers have had issues with people who ask for the smallest competitor, but dont specify the size, and dont realize. socks will only get you so far because you cant adjust the straps or foot pocket.

I figure I can get it, and my feet will grow into it. I'll get a few 5mm socks, I wish they hadn't discontinued it, they'd probably have made more sales with all the small footed people

I wear anywhere from a 5 to a 7 (I usually average around 6.5), but when it comes to water equipment sometimes even a size 4 is too big! O_O The smallest competitor was way too big for me, but I wear 2 pairs of 2mm neoprene socks and that sucker is snug! (but not too snug :)) I tried getting 4mm socks but all the ones I ordered even their smallest size was way too big, so just be aware finding socks that fit may be trial and error. (FYI I'm talking about full ankle socks, not the half socks that only cover half of your foot.)
But honestly my opinion is still that the competitor is way overpriced and not customizable enough. If your read Monofins, the Official thread (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?2909-MONOFINS-THE-OFFICIAL-THREAD) , you'll see there are a WIDE variety of options for fiberglass fins. Leaderfins and Specialfins have had good feedback from fellow mers. They have more sizes and you can choose the stiffness of the blade too! And the cost plus shipping is STILL lower than a competitor! Specialfins goes down to a US size 4.5 and Leaderfins to a size 4. Leaderfins neoprene socks come included, and you can get a monofin bag for around $35 extra.
Honestly the only reason I even have a competitor is becuase the cost was included when I ordered my tail from Merbella Studios. My opinion- I think they're over rated and way over priced, especially when there are so many other options.
Hope that helps! :thumbs-up:

Leaderfins (http://www.leaderfins.com/cgi-bin/form.cgi/67eng (http://www.leaderfins.com/cgi-bin/form.cgi/67eng)) is located in Estonia, and offer a variety of different fins in which you can chose your size footpockets and softness of the blade. They are a good choice for a realistic look inside of a tail, as several of the monofin's foot pockets taper down to the blade, giving it a more seamless and less bulging look <--- Think I'm gonna do this, cuz of the less bulgy effect

http://www.freedivershop.com/fins-and-monofins/finswimming/leaderfins-finswimmer-monofin This is the one I'm gonna get when I save up my money. It has the sloped footpockets on it, and it's the second-cheapest monofin from leaderfins. With shipping, it's still under $200.
