Tail accessories ideas and such!

Yeah, so what I've realized are there sooo many things about belts and earrings, and hair clips. All that stuff, but no one seems to have anything for the tails! What about a cute finlet? Netting to hide heels more or wrinkles in that area? What about strings of beads wrapped around the ankle area? Anything cute and fun for their tails but a belt? I've hardly seen anything like that, but I plan on making a netting finlet with little beads entwined around it. Maybe even just a few strings of cute beads. I understand there may be an issue due to standing or fins brushing the bottom of pools and such, but it seems like a good idea regardless. Just have some netting, maybe a few pearls, beads. Anyway discuss this! I'm really curious about every-mers opinions!

I think that would be very pretty for photoshoots. Tropical flower wraps would be lovely, too! In the water, it could create some drag, so I probably wouldn't wear anything while swimming.

I've thought the idea of a tail ring was real cool, ever sense I saw this picture here:

Though, it might end up messing with the flow of the fluke a little, I still want to see someone try it sometime. :)
I want to make a little ankle bracelet, with some shells and beads for over the tail sometime, I don't think that would change how you swim to much.

I plan on making some finlets, both for personal use and for sale (eventually). I'm trying to come up with a few models that don't cause too much drag, as well as some more "flowery" ones for photoshoots and the like.

I've also toyed with the idea of giving a few of my tails "fluke piercings" and have a detachable "fluke-ring" like the photo above (though now I'm really loving that mer-utility belt!)

Great, now I really want to make a mer-utility belt to be able to put shells or necklaces in, or some cute mer pouch for that stuff to wrap around my tail

me too!!! I've been fancifully thinking about it (I wear utility belts on a regular basis), but now I need to start gathering materials for prototypes and testing drag...

Several people have brought up and used anklets to go around the ankle part of the tail. Tons of people wrap netting around lay netting down on the ankle area when they do a dry event too. I've seen the same done with pearls and strands of shells as well! Useful for hiding those wrinkles! Most people don't go too fancy with them though, as it can look overdone since it's so close to the fluke, which draws most of the attention.

Andersen's version of The Little Mermaid describes oyster shells attached to the tail as signs of high rank... the dowager queen is exceedingly proud of the fact that she is allowed to wear twelve oysters while others can only wear six (presumably in pairs along either side of the tail), though the little mermaid is described as wearing eight of them... the Charles Santore version of the book illustrates these nicely, and I always thought it would be a nifty detail on some of the more realistic tails.

I have some rather large faux pearls I'd love to make an anklet/finlet thing out of... something like that or a small bit of netting shouldn't create too much drag.

I still want big flowery tail corsages for dry events :D

I think detachable barnacles, or something similar, would be cute! Or other flat little shells you could stick to your tail as decoration.

Yay! Morticia Mermaid was kind enough to give me a bunch of netting (she enables my crafting by unloading her extra mer-supplies on me :P I return the favor by unloading all my hoarded fabric stash on her!). So I'll be playing around with making some finlets, and also attempting a mer utility belt.

I really am in love with the tail ring was super cool and if I get a silicone tail I would put a removable small one on there to match my cartilage piercing I just got that is going to be a ring.
