Just wanted to pass this one on. The Blu is an interactive ocean on your desktop, installs like a screen saver, but isn't exactly just that. I've wanted it to use it for a couple years, but I only had a Linux system. Now I've got a Windows system also, so I downloaded The Blu. It's so much fun! Also, it's all completely underwater and makes for handy mermaid-imaginings. :D

From the site:
What is theBlu?
TheBlu is the world's first social digital ocean you can download, explore and share. Inspired by the world's ocean, theBlu is a living and breathing digital art exhibit of ocean habitats and species, created by artists and developers from all over the world. TheBlu raises awareness and funds for ocean conservation with non-profit cause collaborators. TheBlu becomes a state-of-mind where you are inspired, relaxed and connected with the world.
What's different?
TheBlu is not a game. It's not an animated movie. And, it's not a social media site. It fuses elements from all three media types into a new form of entertainment. Inspired by artistic expression and the global collaborative potential of the web, theBlu is a first example of what we refer to as "globally shared media and storytelling."
How much does it cost?
TheBlu is free! You can choose to purchase works of art - beautiful species and habitats - created by artists around the world. The artists get paid for their work and a portion of the proceeds support charities and organizations dedicated to protecting the Oceans. Or you can purchase the Pro version for $19.99 with access to exclusive habitats and species. A percentage of proceeds goes towards oceanic conservation. Visit theBlu website for more information
