I make fabric tails for my Busselton mermaids and I need a cheaper option to put inside the fluke that is tough, light and water proof. Do you think marine plywood coated in waterproof paint would work?
These tails are for just posing not swimming but they get very wet! :)

Well there these plastic sheets that they put on the bottom of pallets when transporting bottles, they're quite thick but have holes in thr middle making them light. Im not sure where you could get them, I found the ones I have near a shopping center bin piled up.

I use PVC-sheets as a 'monofin' in kids tails ;)

Where do you get the PVC sheets from?

Have you considered stitching several pieces of vinyl together and attaching them to cheap shoes?

bunning have PVC Sheets. The brand is called Suntuf, but it says they're for indoor use (there are foam and non foam options, but I don't know what the difference is o.0)
I assume it says indoor use purely because you cannot have it exposed to the weather 24/7 but I don't know for sure. Something to ask the bunnings staff.
Also they're apparently huge! 1200mm x 900mm

I need something that is light weight, hardy and stiff/hard :)

Okay, bear with me a little on this one,
Duct tape, shoes or sandals, and really thick zip ties and plastic binders.
Not very stiff, or hard, but it'll hold it's shape, and with enough duct tape it will be fairly stiff. No, swimming, right? Water-proof enough, if that's the case.

There was a young lady in her who had made a mono fin out of duct tape and maybe cardboard.... I can't remember who she is, but I know I saw this post about a year ago.

You'll just have to go into places and ask I guess :) that's the only way to find out if it's right for you

I saw someone on here made a "prop" monofin out of a bunch of foam sheets, cheap shoes, and duct tape... She took it with her travelling and it rolled up and packed light, and was waterproof enough she could take some photos sitting in a river, and it held it's shape fairly well (it had a bit of "flop" to it, but it looked REALLY nice :) ).

Thanks for the info. I'll get in touch with them and see if they're appropriate for other uses, too.
