Overall, I definitely prefer the video from the Nikon. These were taken at the same pool in the same area,and the film is not as dark but still excellent quality even without the use of a tripod.

I'm thinking about getting the coolpix AFTER I get my tail, but would you say there is an overheating problem? I've heard rumors that that is common

My quick two cents, I have the AW100 from Nikon, the predecessor to the 110AW. My recommendation would be to go the Nikon route.
