Mermaid Clarity

I've been lurking for ages but I figured it was time to join in and start making a tail of my own. I grew up on the coast of California so I'm pretty used to the ocean but it didn't occur to me that I could make my own mermaid tail until a few years ago and I figured, the best way to not completely screw this up was by consulting people who actually knew what they were doing. :P
Hmmmm about me? I don't have a mermaid name really, Selkish comes from a conversation about a coat I'm making that looked "a little bit like a selkie skin... it's selk-ish." OH, that's something interesting, I've been getting into costuming, and I have a blog about that here: thestitchinbitch.blogspot.com (http://thestitchinbitch.blogspot.com) I swear gratuitously, drink less gratuitously and make half-assed DIYs and log the progress of my costuming there. You can bet as soon as I start on my tail, I'm going to be whining about it there.
Because I'm a student and a future impoverished designer I'm going to be attempting the cheapest but most realistic tail I can get. We'll see.
