Mertender issues?

I know most mers on here have mertenders.. I feel I'd need one as I've seen people have stories about kids trying to pull the mermaid under, or a wide variety of things that I hope to avoid. Now I know my mother would be willing to help, but I'm not sure how I'd explain her.. or anyone who offered to be my mertender. I might have a few other people, but none of them are strong enough..

If there's no-one you can ask who's strong enough, one way to explain your mother would be to say she's either your Elder or your friend the ___________. I used "Genie" when I was younger and my mom was helping me. It worked pretty well and people were less weirded out, but an Elder could be a cool concept to try. Say she's there to make sure you don't run into any prince troubles like Ariel did, or something?

I'd say you just need to need to be completely honest (at least with parents). This is my (mother, friend, etc) and they are here to assist me whilst I'm in my tail as there are some things I can't do, they're also here for my safety if I get into any trouble, possibly business discussions if they know what to say. If a kid asks, I'd say just say the same thing. He/she is here to help me get home once I'm done here, maybe that they're also making sure you don't get into trouble.
