Hello!
I've been reading along for a few days now, so I think it is time to introduce myself. I am a merman from Germany (another one, as it seems:p), but unfortunately I have no tail yet (which I think is strange somehow, being a merman without a tail, maybe more like a "merman by heart" currently).
I like water and all water-related activity for as long as I can remember. One key moment was my scuba diving course in 1995 (in the Baltic sea, off the German coast). Since then, I enjoyed every moment being underwater, be it the lakes here in Northern Germany (either murky and cold or clear and cold), the Baltic sea (like a salmon, it always draws me back to where I started ;) ) or the Mediterranian island of Gozo (just beautiful).
The next key moment came when I got a chance to try a monofin at one pool training session with our diving group. The first swim with that monstrous thing on my feet felt really, really weird, with both feet tied together and having to do completely different motions than one is used to, but once I got the hang of it, it was just awesome. I felt like gliding in the water, not pushing through it anymore. So I went and got my hands on a monofin of my own, which made me feel like a real merman (especially in the warm, clear waters of the Mediterranian). The only thing I missed was an actual tail, so I went on swimming and dreaming that at some point in time I'll have one.
Several years passed, until, while looking for some tutorials on how to make a tail, a strange current washed me ashore here at Mernetwork, where I've found pictures of all those gorgeous tails you made, and all of the tutorials and everything. That's when I decided to sign up here.
Oops, that became quite a long story, I'm afraid. Hope I didn't bore you too much.
Regards,
Merman Oliver
